~Maple Syruple Time~ :-)

I had the radio on while I had my coffee this
morning.. of course at my favorite spot :-) I
listen to the oldies station out of Sturgis..They
play some great oldies.. Anyhoway.. I heard the
announcer say that its maple sugar gathering
time right now.. The sap is running.. If you have
a sugar maple tree and you want syrup, tap the
tree :-) But THEN you have to know how to boil
it down to make the wonderful Syrup.. Once you
taste it fresh like that.. its hard to go back to
the store kind... I can remember the times I went
out to my Aunt Gladys's cousins place, the Larson's.
It was a great time.. Well I still remember going
and its been...55 years at least ! :-)

My Aunt Gladys, the one married to my moms brother,
my Uncle Ernie.. My Uncle Gordon's wife was my Aunt
Gladys too.. But she was Irish.. My other Aunt Gladys
was Swedish.. her maiden name was Shoquist, and she
was cousin to the Larson's, that were also Swedish..
And THEY had sugar maples and had the gatherings at
their place for syrup.. :-) I can still smell that wonderful
odor as it cooked.. Then Dwayne would drop some on the
snow for us kids to taste.. THEN there were the pancakes..
I cant think of a good enough word to describe the GREAT
taste of them.. Home made from scratch and with that
fresh syrup.. there's no words that can do it justice to
tell you.. THATS how good it was.. :-)

Anyhoway.. Right now,, down in LaGrange, IN.. theres a farm
or a park.. that you can go to ifn you want some FRESH
maple syrup.. I would go if I could ! :-) I don't think it could
really compare to what I experienced years ago.. but it
would give you a taste of fresh Maple Syrup.. MMMM :-)

I think I slept wrong last night.. I have the worst back ache
right between my shoulder blades.. well my angel wings as I
call them :-) We didn't get the rain or the snow they said
we were gonna get, all we got were gloomy skies and cold.
Lots, like Mary, got ALOT of snow.. I'm glad it missed us..
well it doesn't matter to me.. but I feel for those, like
Penny or the kids that have to drive in it.. I don't have to
deal with it at all.. I'm glad.. :-) I think I would rather
have the snow than a back ache though.. Its always some
thing.. I think I need a back rub.. The last time I had one
was when I was in hospital, almost 2 years ago ! :-) I
THINK its TIME ! :-) I aint goin to hospital to get a
backrub though.. THAT I do know ! :-)

I have NO idea what I'm gonna fix for my dinner today.
I will wait and see how my back feels in a while as to
what I will fix.. I may just have some soup... Its not a
very nice day today, a good soup day.. I mentioned to
a friend that some good beef stew with dumplings
sounds so good doesn't it? That may be on the menu
for tomorrow when Penny can help me do all the prep..
My back wont let me today.. So just something light.

Its post time and time for this GORGEOUS WEEBLE
to do SOMETHING today, even if its wrong! Just so
I can know I did something more than just make a
pot of coffee and feed kitties :-) Well... I do know
I can take a nap! :-) And I CAN remind you that "I
SHALL return!" :-) Happy Sunday! :-)

Always, Lois ****

God Bless You, is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend".
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

    Sorry, Honey,
My arms ain't long enough to reach right across the Pond!! Otherwise, I'd be right there with the Arnica Rub!!!
Ines finds it helps after moving nine tons of earth, so it should sort your back!
Take care, Honey, sleep right to-night!
    Luv Ya,
    Raife

    Hello Lois
Yep we had about 12 inches of that white stuff...this afternoon it is melting real good...we got the car all clean off...we found some died birds...that snow was real wet...I feed them extra today just in case that was the problem with the birds. We will need them this summer to eat all the bugs.
I love pure maple syrup, that what I buy now..but it cost 6 dollars a bottle. but my health will be bless by it. and we don't use to much of it at one time.

Giving Patsy a perm in the morning...
    God bless you Lois.
    Mary

I was in Weston, VT around the peak of syrup season in 1957. They tap into the trees and run a plastic tube into the boiling house. There are lots of tubes one for each tree. They have a fire going to boil off excess water. Yes, the syrup was GREAT!!! Out in Kansas they make sorghum molasses - that's another yummy!!!
