~Scarey Stuff~

Talk about scare the crap otta me..holy cow! I was
sitting at my new computer this morning, reading mail
and enjoying a coffee.. All of a sudden I hear this loud
BEEP BEEP BEEP.!..my smoke detector was going
off.!. Both cats ran for their lives- scaredy cats for
sure...I looked , no smoke, I sniffed, no smell.. I
rolled out to the kitchen , nothing burning, I opened
the basement door, nothing unusual..I listened for
which smoke alarm and it was the one in my bed
room... I went in there and it was fine, no smoke,
no fire, I think the smoke detector was telling me
the batteries are running dead.. I sat for a while
trying to get my hands to stop shaking.. I was in a
fire..it aint fun at all.. This was false alarm...THANK
GOD!

I got to thinking about that though..I don't even have a
fire extinguisher.. I need to get one..I started my stove
on fire at the apartment once..was stupid mistake..I
kept a box , wood, on the back burner to keep my
tools in..kitchen tools. I had put a pot of potatoes on
to boil for potato salad, I just reached, turned the knob
and went back to my computer which was right there
in the living room.. All of a sudden I hear the smoke alarm
go off.. I look at the stove and that box was on fire! I
had turned on the BACK burner, not the front one.. The
pot with the potatoes and water was right there so you
KNOW what I did.. I dumped that pot right on those flames.
I had no choice..it was really on fire and I didn't want to
damage the backwall or the stove or counter ..they would
have made me pay for damage..So that pot of water was
handy, I had a hell of a mess to clean up but..well I got
that fire out..Shows how easy stuff can happen.. After
that I put duct tape over the knobs so If I touched it I would
know instantly it was the wrong knob.. I was going to take
them off but that would look ugly and be my luck when I
moved I wouldn't be able to find them to put back.. I never
used the 2 back burners unless I absolutely had to.. I could
only just barely reach them... I never got a extinguisher
then either.. But I seriously think I should.. Everyone should
have one...

When I had left my first husband, I moved to a small house
across the river, only 1 bedroom, about the size of this one,
except it was ground level.. My oldest son was with his
dad and Mark stayed with me.. I remember he and I laying
on the couch and sleeping, the next thing I knew he was
standing by me slapping me and yelling "Mommy, wake up"
I opened my eyes and my kitchen looked like I had opened
the door to a furnace..I grabbed Mark and went to the door
put him on the porch and went back to get clothes for us,
when I did that the pressure from the fire slammed the door
shut and the dead bolt locked.. I ran into the bedroom past
the inferno in the kitchen and burned my hair , my eyelashes,
my eyebrows and my nightgown was a chiffon material and
it melted to my shoulders... I went back to the door to escape
and I couldn't get the door unlocked..Everything started to
get hazy and I knew I was gonna pass out, I could hear my
boy on the other side of the door yelling to me, I gave the
deadbolt one more ferocious try and the lock came open, I
opened the door and ran out..Grabbed Mark and I honestly
for weeks later don't remember a lot.. I know I went back
inside after it was over, and nothing was left in there..It was
either burnt or melted or soaking wet from the water.. It
was something I will never forget..seeing everything I had
destroyed... Fires are NOT a good thing.. Every time I see
or hear a firetruck go by here I always say a little prayer,
no one is burnt or killed, I know what its like to be in a
fire..

Well anyway., when Penny got here she put in a new
battery to shut that thing up...It kept going off every
15 minutes or so to remind me so I was glad she got
here to stop the beepin thing..theyre good to have
though but they sure can scare uglies otta you ! :-)
Other than that it was a quiet day, not a lot ..Tomorrow
Kenny is due I called and told him about the faucet and
reminded big Kenny, about the branches he said little
Kenny would pick them up..Also I asked him about the
black mold in the basement.. That humifier is running
constantly and I can even smell that basement up here..We
have had so much rain lately its pitiful.. Kenny said he
would maybe have a woman or someone come by and
wash it down..I have heard washing black mold with bleach
can cause problems tho ..and that's what he said this lady
would do.. I don't wana ask the wrong people cuz if they
do decide that mold is toxic they would make me move
and THEN where would I move? I just hope he can do
something.. He needs to waterproof that basement is
what he needs to do.. Its sad the condition this house
is in when it really wouldn't take a lot to make it a cute
little cottage type house..sad they don't ...

Time to close for today, I still have lots to do to get my
puter set up..I still have my cam and scanner to put in
and I need to find my cd for my PSP 9 if I cant find
that I'm in trouble.. Its expensive to replace...I need
a snack and then out of this chair for the rest of the
day.. So that means its time for my GORGEOUS
WEEBLE "nitey nite"

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and Thanks!
Always, Lois ****

God Bless You, is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend"
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
until I write again .....

    Hi, Honey,
What a nasty shock! Fire is NOT funny - I know, I was working under a Jaguar SS100 sports car when the gas I was draining caught fire. I got out with my arm ablaze, just like on the movies! The fire brigade got there fast and had the fire out pretty quickly, The garage was wooden and only the inner wall burned out, so we were able to carry on working later that day. It was between Christmas and New Year, about 1953. So, no, I don't like fire either.
    Take care, honey,
    Luv Ya,
    Raife

Everybody has a fire story. my parents were fire prone. The stove caught fire several times. An arm chair caught fire once. Workmen caused a fire on the back porch once. I won't comment on my luck.

    Hello Lois
I hate fire too, never had one in the house...
We had lot of rain this morning, they say some rain all week.
Tonight I did a little painting in my bathroom, just the wood work and doors...I will be glad when all the painting inside is done, I know I just got started...and it going to be slow getting it all done.
Going to put my computer in my bedroom, that going to take some time too.
I need more room in my dinning room. And my filling cabinet going in there too. Plus that will help when I get ready to paint the dinning room.
And I have a hard time keeping my computer desk clean, so it will be out of sight.
Those smoke alarm can drive you crazy, when the batteries are low.
Have fun on your new computer my friend.
    God bless you.
    Mary
