Amputee life before and after...

~Harley's~

I was looking out the window today and I saw 3 guys
on Harleys go roaring down the street.. You can tell
one by the sound, no other bike soundslike them...I
used to drive to Racine most week ends for a while to
spend it with my brother Kenny and his wife Yvonne.
Racine, Wisconsin.. Nice town, right on the lake.. That's
Donnie's hometown. I met Donnie back in 83, he
and Yvonnes son, Billy, are best buds..Billie even moved
here shortly after Donnie did.. Anyway I would go and
visit my brother when Willie, my 2nd husband was away
on a job in North Platte, NE. THAT is a whole other
story about that place ..out in the middle of no where
almost, but some of the nicest people I have ever met.
Some of the most wonderful antique cars there too!

When I went to Racine, usually the 4 of us went, Donnie,
Billy and I, and of course Kimmie, Donnies girlfriend..We
lost Kimmie in 89... Kelli's mom, a car accident. I stayed
at my brothers and usually Saturday night we would go
to their local tavern, something like Cheers, everyone
knew everyone.. They had a friend Bill.. nice guy and he
joined us one night, we had a couple drinks, Bill only had
one, and then the rest of the night drank soda ... Bill
rode a Harley, and he wasn't about to take ANY chances
with that bike, it was his pride and joy.

Later in the evening Bill asked if I would like to take a
ride up to Milwaukee with him..wasn't far, and a nice
warm summer night, yes, I went, who would refuse a
ride on a Harley anyway? Plus my brother knew Bill and
vouched for him that I was safe to go with him... We
left the tavern and walked out to his bike.. it was indeed
a Harley, fully decked out.. Bill had to help me climb on
this bike it was massive.. Id not ridden a bike but one
other time and then, compared to this one, it was like
a bicycle... I snuggled my butt down on that leather seat,
put my arms around Bills waist and I was good to go...

Bill climbed on and started that Harley and think its loud
when your INSIDE a house and can hear it.?. ride one.. It
was great.. We took the back roads and we had a good
time, it was a full moon and so bright you almost didn't
need a headlight to see the road.. As we came around a
bend there was only 1 second to react as a deer came
jumping out from the woods and ran across the road..
Bill jammed on the brakes,, that bike started to go
sideways and I KNEW we were gonna crash.. Bill put
his foot out and STOPPED us from tipping over, we
were really lucky he had managed to slow it down
enough so that he could, it kept that bike up straight.
He stopped and we just sat there for a while, to try
to calm down, that scared me.. I told Bill, "ok..lets
go slower I don't need a road rash and Id like to
get there in 1 piece.."... He did, but taking the back
roads like that you have to be always on guard...
Deer can go to cross a road, see the light or lights
and will stop right there and LOOK at the lights ,
that's why so many get hit... and the damage they
do is amazing.. We were lucky and it was a great ride.

I bet I still could ride a Harley.. There is a site I saw
and the guy is a biker, hes a amputee, one leg though.
There are a lot of people that are amputees that ride.
I don't know if I could drive one, but I bet I sure
could ride it ok, depends who I would be riding it with!
:-) Have to be someone that wouldn't mind me holding
on tight and glued to their back ! :-)

Penny came today and we are squeaky clean again.
I don't know why Dutch has been really mean to
her lately and we have no idea why.. She cant even
pet him, let alone reach out to him. He slapped her
good this morning and for no reason... I think hes
just mad cuz hes not the boss..he has to contend
with LB and me... He wants to be the main cat
here.. well that day will NEVER happen, I am the
boss kittie here.. :-) The boy didn't make it last
nite he had too much to do so he is due tonight. I
hope not real late, after 5 I kinda have run my
endurance course for the day and I'm ready to
unwind.. I slept till 630 this morning but I have
had a bad headache,I woke up with, all day and
I'm tired.. I could easily take a nap.. I don't like
to though Id rather sleep at nite.. I nap and no
telling what time I would fall asleep and my time
clock would really get off kilter.. So until tomorrow
its time for my GORGEOUS WEEBLE "nitey nite"...

Y'all have a good one Y'hear? love ya and THANKS!
Always, Lois ****

God Bless You, is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend"
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
until I write again .....

    Dearest dear one!
I have had serious connectionproblems prolly caused by the rainy and windy weather, or the hotels thick stonewalls... Dunno, but tonight a sudden improvement has occured so here i am!
Yeah you would be a lovely sight on a Harley, but you are a lovely sight where ever you are.
So stick to your comfy and useful chair, as both you and i am used to. Remember the chair is in fact your legs, and what would you do without them? Without them wheels and your buttcushion, your stumps and butt should suffer. When we meet we can get a carride instead... The thing is youll have to wait for that ride, pity for me and hopefully for you to. Well honey, enough for tonight now i shall enter the land of Mr. Sandman, and try to catch a dream off you before i the wakeup-call.
Kisses and sweet dreams you lovely gorgeous woman!
    Take care
    Your own

The only motor cycle I ever rode on was a BMW. An airline pilot I knew stopped by and we only rode about a mile or so - It was sure a quiet bike.
