Amputee life before and after...

~Better & Better ~ :-)

I got a Christmas letter that I was so pleased to receive.
Its from my lifelong cousin June. She lives up there in
God's Country, the UP of Michigan, she was 90 years old
in September. Her Dad, my Uncle Stanley and two brothers
came over from England, one was my Grandfather, Sidney.
The third, Leonard. They were miners in Cambourne, and
decided to come over and work the mines in the Upper
Penninsula. I don't know any of the minute details, but I
do some from my mother.

June, her sister, Dorothy, and 2 of my Uncles, brothers of
my mother, but June's cousins, are still alive and have to
be in their 90's as well, or very close. My Uncles, Telfer
and Ernest, they are the last 4 of the original or what do
you say, the starters of the family up there. My mother was
8 when she came over, and she was born in 1909. but in
the UK. I often asked her why she had 4 vacination scars
on her arm, since I had only one.. she said she had to have
those shots when she came over with Gramma on the boat
to live with Grandpa. I know the men came over first, then
the women and children. My Uncle Leonard, I'm not sure
how many children he had.. 3 I think...My Grampa had 8,
My Uncle Stanely Sr. had 5. Was a big close family...

June is doing very well, she takes care of herself. I'm sure
she is closely watched by her two sons, Bobby and Jerry.
Bobby and I were good buddies. When I used to go there
every Monday night after school, to do the ironing for them,
he and I would walk there together.. we were friends besides
being family. He spent many days out at the cottage with us
during the summers.. We had great fun with that boat and
I couldn't keep track of how many times we went around it,
just putting along, see something that caught our eye to do,
stop, then move on to another spot.. we got grounded once,
went too shallow, not paying attention.. Bobby got out and
the bottom was horribly soft mush, iccky stuff. I started
to get out and my foot hit that and felt like no bottom, I
stayed in the boat, Bobby pushed and he got us out though.
We fished, swam.. caught minnows, were good times..

June, like all the ladies in the family was, well still is, I'm
sure shes still cooking..knowing her.. I have lots of her
recipes and I KNOW they are THE best...After my mom
died June was my supplier of Saffron Buns. One of my
MOST very best favorite things and that's one thing she
cant do, to knead the dough, is too hard on her.. But from
what I gather, her sons wife, Gail makes it for her now..

But June is in very good health she says. She filled me in
on newsy family things. My cousin Willard is tending to
the family graves there, my parents and grandparents,
aunts and uncles, cousins, are all buried in one area close
to each other as most bought the plots at the same time
just for this reason. I had a plot there as well.. but a dear
friend died, and her family wanted her buried by her dad,
and that was by my two, my parents bought mine and my
sisters for us, I sold mine so Jeannie could be buried
there. Where we sleep has no bearing...its all ground..
But it is nice to know that the tradition of tending the
family is still going on.. Willard is the son of my Uncle
Stanley, Jr. my mothers brother..

I woke feeling better, LOTS better and boy am I glad.
I sure don't want this back.. Donnie is due to come over
tonite with the saw for my chair. I asked him what he
wants for Christmas.. he said "MEAT" :-).. so, that's what
I will get him.. Sand Lake Store has great freezer packs.
I like to get something they can use, not stick in a closet.
So that's what he and Kelli are getting.. its on the way
here, so he can stop and shop on his way back home..

Time for a rest, I still feel like a stop and go light though.
I do good for a while, then I wear down like that rabbit
that doesn't have the energizer batteries... :-) Time to
post and take a rest.. This BETTER GEORGEOUS
WEEBLE says "G'day, G'day"... :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and Thanks!
Always, Lois ****

"God Bless You", is my prayer today,
I'm honored to call you "friend".
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again....

    Hi, Honey,
SO glad you are feeling better.
How nice for you to get all that family news. This is the time of year when folks send you their "Epistle"!! We have had three, so far, from friends.
You getting stuck in the mud reminded me of the time we were sailing in Bosham Harbour and we got agroud on a lee shore. I had to get over the side, hang on to the gunwale and push us off, but it was VERY sticky mud under foot - YUK!!!
We got off, though. Happy memories, as you say.
    Take care, Honey
    Love Ya,
    Raife

    Hi Flutterby,
Can you send some of that snow over here? Raife might have a different opinion but to each his or her own. All we get is this freezing fog and the feeble attempt to snow.
Still feels like I got hit in the kidneys with a sledgehammer and then drug over speedbumps on a runaway bus,,,,, Little Guy is hammering along at a million miles an hour.....5 now seems like only such a short time..... GLad you and the boys have settled in and some senser of routine is setting in. Gotta run so I can get my 5 hours before that awful four letter word. (WORK)
    Take Care
    Love
    'im over there

I always love receiving End of Year, Christmas letters.I still haven't done one this year. I will do one soon. The FBI and DEA raided the drug house next door - I'll write in detail about that one.
