~Beautiful Day~
I sat yesterday afternoon in my favorite spot by the back door and it was the clearest blue sky, warm and a soft breeze, a beautiful summer day. I sat there thinking of some of the nice summer days I remember growing up. Going to the lake was a biggie. Usually one of our mothers would take us, some just dropped us off, like my mom did or Leah's. MaryAnn's and Bonita's mom didn't take us as they didn't have cars. Plus if Mary Ann's mom had one, her 4 brothers would have had to go and that wasn't any fun. Pepper, her name was really Marianne, she had lots of freckles that she hated, which was surprising since she was half Italian.. Her mom Mrs. Pociopa, Dorothy, was Italian. I don't know what her dad was.. Pociopa isnt Italian.. Said- PO- Chop- A... He was a big quiet man, a miner. Mrs Pociopa was a outdoorsy woman, summer or winter and VERY pretty as I remember her. When SHE took us out to the lake she liked to go swimming too and was a great swimmer. I can remember her doing some beautiful swan dives off the big dock high dive. She was just as athletic in the winter and was VERY well known for her figure skating. When she took us to the lake, Peppers 2 brothers, Danny and Jeff usually went along, which was ok, they went off one way and Pepper and the rest of us would go another and Mrs. Pociopa did what she wanted which usually was to lay in the sun. It was great fun. When my mom would take us she always had a supper along, of course in the picnic basket :-) My dad would drive out and join us after he closed the garage down for the day. When my parents bought the cottage out at Sunset Lake I was lovin' every minute of it.. Was a great place and I got to invite my friends out to spend a week or so with me. They liked it too.. Sunset Lake was a great one, warm water and the bottom was sand, not mucky. My dad made a dock that he anchored farther out which we had fun pushing each other off of playing around.. I got pushed off once by I have no idea who and the next thing I knew someone else got thrown off as I was coming up, I went back down and when I got jumped on, knocked what air I had out, so I was frantically struggling to get to the surface. Just as I can see thru the water I was getting closer I felt this hand grab my hair and PULL ME UP! Hurt like crazy but truth be known I WAS GLAD! I was running out of air ! Accidents can happen so fast and you could be in trouble, I saw a story on TV where this beautiful woman, paralyzed from the chest down from diving into a lake she wasn't familiar with, the bottom was sloped to a drop off and she hit the edge, snapped her spine and her life changed for ever. Boating accidents can happen too, most of my uncles had boats, my cousin Gibby did, but I wasn't allowed to ride with him, he was very careless and went too fast. Some did, but my mom said "NO WAY!" but my Uncle Ernie, Uncle Phil, cousin Bob, they had boats, they werent as reckless as him.. So I got plenty of rides. I never did learn to water ski, I saw my sis try it,, she went head first, she was bruised from head to toe, that settled it for me.. I stuck to riding INSIDE the boat :-) Today is a great summer day too and already hot. I'm cool though. Rebecca phoned yesterday and I told her again how I feel and she understands, but she can only do so much. She said she would come by next week for her regular visit, next Wednesday, I'm not worrying about this till then. Its the weekend and I want to enjoy it :-) and I AM.. :-) Post Time and lunch time and time to do some more sewing, I got 3 pairs of shorts and a pair of jammies made yesterday, so hopefully I can get some more made today.. I'm gonna try.. then I feel Ive gotten something accomplished today... But this GORGEOUS WEEBLE will be back.. :-) Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? luv ya and thanks! Always, Lois **** "God Bless You" is my prayer today I'm honored to call you Friend.. I pray the Lord will keep you safe, Until I write again... | ||

this is an unusual summer in ny. It has been cold and rainy. I do not yearn for heat - it is as if the Lord turned on the air conditioning - I like it.
