~Blind In One Eye Too~

I'm considered legally blind in my left eye. Yes, happened back in '84.
A piece of metal went thru it.. My ex and I ran a tree removal & trimming
service. I was on one of the jobs to take down a tree and was the 2nd day
of the job, and the guys were down to just the stump removal..Julio was
the head climber and in charge of the crew I think my ex was in Florida
at the time...

To get at the stump they use a thing called a wedge..like a long V shape &
flat on the top where you hit it with the hammer made of steel I think..
steady use the flat top had gotten worn. I was sitting all the way across the
yard on a chunk of wood.. I looked up and said "I am So.." and BAM ! My
head kinda went back..my left eye closed and I felt my face get wet..It
didn't hurt..

I called the foreman over to take a look,, I watched his face as it turned
white and he said "this doesn't look good. you need to go to the
emergency room NOW..I sat for a few minutes..trying to decide what to
do.. I decided to go to my sisters, of course, she could fix anything..I
drove there holding a towel to my eye, about 20 miles? I have no idea.
When I got there I walked into her house, stood there for a second and
told her I got something in my eye and would she get it out.. She looked,
didn't say a word..grabbed my arm, her purse , keys, and off we went to
the ER...

The scan showed a 1/4 inch piece of metal inside my eye socket. It had
a barb on it, like what is on a fish hook..They took me immediately to
surgery, and tried to remove it with a magnet which didn't work.. I was
transferred to another hospital to be operated on by a eye specialist in a
bigger town. They performed surgery the next day and had to repair the
shredded eye socket, and sewed the eyeball closed, using one stitch going
the length of the cut...The round black center of my left eye is NOT round
it is shaped like a cat's long and kinda oval, I was told the metal went 1 mm
from the center of my eye and tore the lens off and bounced around in the
eye socket, shredding it, massive damage. I had to wear a patch for 6 wks..
When the time came to take the stitch out , the Dr, sat across from me,
my chin in that machine thingie..and I saw his face go kind of into shock
he gasped , and said "ohoh, hmmm seems it hasn't healed at all..its
wide open Lois. Now don't panic but we have to sew it back up AGAIN"..
This meant the 3 rd time. I was taken to out patient surgery, they
numbed the eye sewed it back up again.. and I went home... another 2
months went by, and the stitch was successfully removed.. I can only
see shapes and colors out of it.. I have no depth perception..that's why
I guess I run into walls n stuff lol..well sounds good...I'm blind in one eye
and cant see out of the other !! lol see? all these run ins are NOT my fault..
well yes, but WELL.. I'm blind in one eye and cant see out of the other and
I HAVE short arms as well. am I in BAD shape here..well all works for me
so.. thats my final answer on that haha.. :-)

Well I am planning to make some new skirts, and my left eye is getting
tired, or something and when I get tired it has a tendency to close.. So
I thought I may make some eye patches, they might feel good just to
give it a rest.I am seriously considering it..I would look like a pirate all I
need is the parrot now and a couple peg legs LOL..Would I be a sight :-D
I have some beautiful black silk and a wonderful piece of purple, I'm sure
my sis has some as well.. I had thought of satin..A gorgeous plaid ..be so
pretty for holidays..with matching tops of course.. Skirts are so easy to
make..same with the tops I bet I could make a gorgeous set in..hmmm.
maybe 3 hrs ? depends how many interruptions..and if I can hold the
scissors..I had heck of a time trying to write out a Christmas card the
other day, I dont write much other than a check anymore lol..to write a
whole letter my hand didnt know how to act so will probably be the
same way when I try to sew again lol. I may make a matching eye patch
to these new outfits..hmm, a thought...

Update on the pumpkin bread..now hear this:..the bread is half gone..lol
I couldn't help it.. It has been so long since I made any.. Next is going to
be banana bread. Kelli is waitin for cookies and I promised her some of
my chocolate ones..they're like brownie bites they are great...
Well its time to taste test the bread again..Don't forget to let me know if
you want on my list now...ok? just send me your email ..and say to add
you to my wishlist..and I'll send you a Merry Christmas, :-)

Y'all have a good one now Y'hear? luv ya and thanks...:-)
Always, Lois***

May God Bless you today,
I'm so honored to call you friend,
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

Well Hon, I knew about your eye -but not in so much detail. I can relate to that having lost most of the sight in my right eye a couple years ago. It's a bummer (appropriate comment coming from me - lol, butt you learn to cope. Easier to live with than other losses.........

Anyway - great to read your blogs - Bare Hugs as always.

    Dear Lois,
This binocular thing is only important when your pour a glass of wine - believe me, I KNOW - lol. You have to touch the top of the bottle on the rim of the glass and then pour. Threading a needle is more dificult, but there are little gizmos that almost do it for you and they are not expensive. Like you say, you learn to compensate. Driving a car, you don't need two eyes - again, I know lol ;-)
    Love and hugs,
    Raife.

Hi Raife, yes, its just a matter of learning how to redo stuff. It can be funny at times. I had a circular drive that went all around my house and I drove round & round that. I came close to hitting the house and some trees but I learned how to make adjustments so now I only hit smaller things ..like walls and doors hehe..no Just kidding. :-)only if they get in my way
    and I'm in a hurry.
    Always, Lois***
