~My Kitchen Needs Redesigned~

My kitchen is a disaster, I have been so lazy and I know better.
I have not been doing dishes and just putting them in the sink to
soak..THAT is NOT a good habit I will learn one of these days.
My counters are so full I put stuff on them and not in the
cuboards so I can reach them..

When I lived up north with my ex were going to try to buy this older
house we had been renting , 4 bedrooms right in town, garage, full
basement the kitchen had one one small double cubpoard over a small
work area, next to the sink,, I think the chimney divided that wall, sink
on the other but there was an old timey pantry. you went thru a door,
and the whole wall was wide open shelves..NOW THAT would be
excellent...and low so I could reach them but only say a foot half deep.
I loved that thing It held so much.. My mother used to have one in the
basement. the basement was divided, dads part, with paint and some
outdoor stuff, then moms part that had all the canned goods LOL>.
which it should have been vice versa really...lol...There was a little
ladder in there for my mom to climb up on., a step stool I guess.. I have
the old one she kept upstairs where you pull and lkinda flip out the
steps its nice, But a pantry like that would be a better idea than what
they have in here.. The closet doors are awful.. theres a thin rod to
twist and open these slats.. Ive broke mine off a couple times till I think
Chris got mad at me having to fix it all the time.. and I KNOW donnie
had to fix it at least 3 or 4.. The things they put in here to benefit us..I
dont know or understand how someone in a chair dould have designed
it. I sure would like to meet them.. Show them how it is for me.. There
are so many adaptions I could make here to make cooking so easy and
tthe safety better.. You should see the tape I have over my burners
in the back.. I cant use them.. So I keep stuff on them.. I can reach
it but not to see and cook anything.. Know how many times I turned
the wrong burner on? Well not till I HEARD THe smoke detector go
off.. hmm 3 times now? I keep them covered with tape so I dont
just flip and turn on the wrong one..

I kept my kitchen utensils in a crockery type jar .. well all the handles
melted thats how long they cooked before the smoke detector
went off by then they were really smokin..BIG TIME. Nothing smells
worse than melting plastic,, Wood smells real good too.. I had a box
that was wood..had forgot what in it..but it got a real pretty charred
look to it.. I had flames all the way up the wall on THAT one.. and
I STILL didnt LEARN>.Welll..my knobbies are covered now.. I even
thought what if one of the boys stepped wrong and turned a burner
on.? and even the front .. If I am dumb enough to leave something
on it.. NOT smart..I AM LEARNING here..lol...

I measured the counter to the very top of it..its 34 inches from the
floor with a 2 inch wide strip in front to kind of hide the sink under
nearh and all wide open.. thats the sink area .. turn to the right
and then its counter, stove counter, with drawers on the left of
the oven.. and cabinet on the right side of the oven..and cup
boards up above..I cant reach but the very bottom upper shelf..
and only if its in front.. then I have to use my grabber...This is
fun.. I keep my dishes in the drawer. theyre not plastic , I cant really
get them down safely...so the drawer works great.. But I had a
turn table under my cupboard where I lived with my ex was right
in the corner, that held more stuff was wonderful..the top shelf
wasnt as wide out as the lower so you could see the back of the
bottom shelf.. that would be so great here... I have a garbage
disposal i wish was a dishwasher..but go figure the logic on
what they did here.. and a married couple both in chairs are
said to have designed this place.. AMAZING..they had to have
been giants.. there are alot of adaptions could be made.. Like
why the stove top is 2 x 2 burners.. for me 4 in a row would be so
much better...

Well now that I have thoroughly re designed the kitchen here..lol
i maybe better go out and check and see how easily I can find a
snack lol.. I know .. I know..i got nuthin sweet..hmmm I gave Donnie
the bag of Oreos, with the cabbage rolls...Ahhh i got some puddin
left out there.. those little snacky kind are pretty good... I like the
butterscotch too... Hope I dont get lost on the way.. lol haha I just
have to follow the bloody path I cut thru there the other day.. I
cant believe I did that.. well shows how far I can reach around my
chair tho dont it? lol.. *sigh* Manager said, new carpet and SHHHHH..
dont complain too much alot going on all around me.. that PATIENCE
is the word..and I KNOW there is alot.. I HATE when I hear a knock
and there is a policeman there, makes my heart just do a little kinda
jump ya know? LOL.. I HATE that...

Well kitchen here I come.. I am going to watch tv. I caught up all my
email and my inbox is pretty empty ..Only 1 more to answer and I
will do that in the morning.

Y'all have a good one now y'hear? luv ya.. thanks..
Always. Lois ***

May God Bless you today,
I'm so honored to call you friend,
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

    Dear Lois,
Those knobs on your cooker – they should either be a simple push fit, with a little spring clip inside the hole in the knob, or have a little grub-screw to clamp them on the spindle. In either case, it shouldn’t be too difficult to remove the offending ones completely. This would make the top of the cooker easier to clean, too.
On kitchen design, I guess it is an unequal competition between sense and pence!!! Your designers may well have known exactly what was needed, but maybe were over-ruled on the grounds of cost. The developer obviously had not heard of “lateral thinking” and I bet there was the thought that if a “normy” moved in, they would not want or like the adaptation for wheelchair users. It’s all down to commercial considerations in this wicked old world, I’m afraid. Doesn’t make it any easier for you, though, does it?
Take care. Love and big hugs, Raife.

Morning Raife, Yes I think the money is all part of it of course..There are not that many places that I have found when I looked before that were mainly
just for disabled, as that is what this apt. complex is for. You have to have a disability to live here.95%of the residents are in a chair.. I dont know but 1 that isnt.
Hope you are doing ok..take care and luv ya !!!
    always, Lois***
