~Plan of Attack~

I decided I need a "plan of attack" to solve my house cleaning delema.
I've been trying to find a new caregiver. Been on the phone(when it
works) trying to find one.. I am having serious doubts. Even though
this is a small town I guess there are alot of people that require home
help. Well there are 18 apartments here that all use home help. Most
of them all have family that live close and can come by once a week
or so. I have family, but too far away, Donnie & Dawn are close I
think about 10 miles..but they stay so busy they dont have time for
themselves let alone anyone else .lol. They both work, Donnie 2 jobs
and Dawn one, but she goes to college. Their spare time they need
to spend time together, not come and take care of me...

I have been trying to figure out ways that I can perhaps do most of
what needs done myself and the easiest ways to do it. I think If I
can get more of my stuff adapted to me it might help. Even my
broom is dangerous lol. Well it has such a long handle..and when I
try to sweep or something I knock stuff off of the counter or tables.
I need a saw lol.. I had seen some little girls cleaning toys.. broom
mop etc, and they would be perfect.. My sis is going to bring me
one of the old timey carpet sweepers, that are not electric , she
forgot last time she came and that will be good...

The main things that will give me problems are of course doing my
floors.. So the carpet sweeper will help, then I dont have to take out
the beast. I have a mop, but it has a long handle as well. but it could
be cut off too. The other things I think will be hard , one is taking out
the trash. I will have to transfer into my power chair to do that, then
hopefully can hold it out and away from anything so the bag doesnt
break on the way out to the trash bins that are on the other side of the
building. I could not use my manual for that. The dusting If I can find
one of those feather dusters with a longer handle, I perhaps can reach
some of the things with that, like my lamps and end tables etc...Dishes ,
well if I keep them washed after I use something wont be so bad or
involve holding my arms up for too long...

I can clean the bathroom ok..as its so wide open and the shower stays
clean, its a shower lol.. The sink and counter are high in there as well,
but not that big. My bedroom- mainly just doing the floors and keeping
my desk straight. One thing I dont know how I will do that is laundry.
I dont know if I can carry a basket full of clothes all the way down to
laundry room and get the clothes in or OUT of the washing machine.
Its a top loader, which you would think they would put in front ones
since 95% of the people here are in chairs. I dont really get dirty, I
have a tendency to spill on myself once in a while tho when I try to
carry food into the bedroom to watch tv while I eat. Its like having
company when I eat in front of the tv and not by myself.

Most of it I think I can do it..and isnt it amazing that I took all this
for granted that I would always be able to do these things? I would
never have thought I would have to make a "plan of attack" to be
able to clean my house.. I have always been very fussy and I have
had to learn that what I can do is what I can do as long as I still
TRY to do it..and that will just have to work. I think once I get the
things that will help me I will stress out less from not having some
one right away.. Penny, next door, bless her heart, has offered to
go to the store for me when ever I need something, she is a big help
to me and I really appreciate her, she looks out for me and keeps me
up on any problems in the building...

Today I did get some very discouraging news.. I got a box of free food
once a month from the CAA here, and even was delivered.. I didnt get
a box last month and I called to find out-the office was closed for 2
weeks, due to the holidays. Apparently due to the gas costs they wont
deliver to anyone anymore and we will have to make arrangements for
someone to go and get them for us. The lady felt really bad when she
told me as she knew how we depended on that extra food to get us
thru the month.. $74.00 a month doesnt go very far. not now days.
The problem is gas prices again. Just always something.

If I get that attack figured then I can probably get alot done myself if
I pace it out and dont try to do it all in one day. lol.. I just like to get
things done when they need done I guess I just need more patience.
I will call and talk to my sis tonite she always has good ideas.. She
knows how stressed I get when I cant get things done especially my
house clean. We are alot alike as she is the same way. Then I will call
my brother to find out about my neice if and when she may be moving
to this area.. *SIGH* that old saying comes to mind.."Where there is
a WILL..there is a WAY"... anyone know Will? LOL.. ;-D

Well speaking of attacks.. My stomach feels it is being attacked cause
it hasnt had any food all day lol...So I guess its off for my nightly
trip in there. I dont know what I will attack out there tho, nothing
really sounds good that I want to have, so maybe just a soda will do.
I hear yelling in the hall outside my door.. hmm someone else is
having a attack it sounds like. I'm sure if was something Penny will
let me know, I keep it locked and I do have 2 armed and dangerous
felines that Im sure will protect their mother lol...

Y'all have a good one now y'hear? luv ya.. and THANKS !!!

Always, Lois***

May God Bless you today,
I'm so honored to call you friend,
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

    Dear Lois,
There is a "Will" here who would just love to help with lots of "Ways"!!
Like you say, they are such simple things, like cutting a broom handle down to size, but it is so hard to get them done. You'll have to come and live in Exford!! lol ;-)
    Love and Hugs,
    Raife.

It is interesting that we can spend so much money in Iraq, but we run out of money for the USA. Your building should try to develop a cluster type of home attendant. I used to work in a beautiful project in Queens, NY for the elderly and disabled. There were several cluster home attendants. You could get 2 hours that way. Speak to your case manager.

Morning Raife, Exford is a lovely place, I'll start packing :-) Sometimes the simple things are the hardest to get done.

I agree Momar, the USA sends money all over the world yet so many here are in such need. My state is broke.

The main problem is no one wants to work for 6.00 an hour when gas is so high, some that live here dont have the same option for home help and many have family that come in, as they cant afford to pay anyone.. I couldnt if the state didnt help me.Its sad. But nothing we can do.
I have spoken to my State Rep. even.. nothing works. Rules are rules they say.
    Always, Lois***
