~Happy Mothers Day, Meet My Mom~

Since today is Mothers Day I thought I would post this one of
my mother, the lady that raised me. I was, as you know adopted
by her and my Dad when I was 14 months old. She is the only
one I know as Mother. Her name is Violet. Lovely name isn't it?
Violet Beatrice. She was born in England, one of 8. She came
over to the USA with my Grandparents when she was 8 years
old. She had 4 inoculation spots on her upper left arm from the
vaccinations she had to have when they came here. Her father
was a miner in England, he & his 2 brothers, came over first,
got jobs in the mines..then sent for their family's. They all
settled in Upper Michigan. She quit school at 8th grade to work
it was the depression..She met and married my Dad in 1929
they separated when my dad died in 1989..My mother died
in 1990, You can see the tenderness in her eyes, yet look close,
you see, the determination, the smile of confidence in herself..
She made the dress she has on...this picture was taken in 1933.
she was born in 1910....lovely lady.

This photo is of course moi..on the left, all smiley and cute-..in
the middle is Gayle, she is 8 years older than me, I was about
11 or 12 in this photo..And of course..Mom is on the right.. If
you look closely you will see one of her many flower beds she
had, tulips were blooming and it was a good day and this WAS
taken on Mother's Day, We were on our way to church, Dad
had us line up so he could take this picture of us..Don't we just
look smart ? :-) Look closely at our faces, we were a happy
family..you would NEVER guess that Gayle and I got along like
cats and dogs would you? We did...
now.. look at the clothes we are wearing, my wonderful border
print skirt...the blouse of course matched..up on the collar you
can see the design that is in the hem of the skirt, the design
there is nice and bright..in colors of gold and orange and a light
brown..notice my saddle shoes ?..I loved those things and kept
them HIGHLY polished..notice EVERY hair is in place as well..
My sister has on pale blue matching skirt and blouse..had a very
faint flower design on it that the camera couldnt pick up.. My mom
had on a pale peach colored dress and you cant see the hat on
her head..but you can see the gloves and matching purse..I am
describing what we are wearing as my mother made those
outfits we have on..She was SO talented..thats where I picked it
up..She was a sewer, could make anything..and crochet? I have
some of the doileys she made..just wonderful.. She was a
good woman..and the best cook in Iron County. :-)

This is a picture one of the last I think of just her and I..you
can see she was a small woman..Only 4 foot 10..I was 5 foot
4 ..you can see how her head came to just my chin...We were
at a lovely place called Bond Falls..The falls were and still are
one of the most scenic places in Upper Michigan..If you look
closely at that hill behind in the background, behind there is full
of water..to the left..look closely and you will see the flood gates..
Certain times of day..the gate horn will sound..and DONT be in
the flood zone..you WILL get wet when that water comes out..to go
over the falls down below.. The falls are to my right..MY right not
the water side.lol.. This is a wonderful place. Many tourists go to
see this and this is the area of the famous Paulding Light..that
NO ONE can explain..and everyone has seen.. There are so
many superstitions about where the light is coming from yet no
one knows, not even to this day..That little stream next to me..There
was the first place that I caught a fish, when my dad first showed
me the joys of FISHING :-) some great fish in that little stream it
came off that lake up top behind that dam that is behind that hill..
fish up there! the fishing is WONDERFUL..

This is the last tier of the falls..down at the very bottom..its a lovely
place..there is a trail..a well groomed sidewalk type that goes
down the side of the falls..a bridge at the very bottom and on the
other side is a very rough climbing trail back up to the top..My
mother every year until she died..made the trek down the side
where the sign is..and back up the other..She said she would make
this climb every year until she died..and Bless Her Heart..she did..
She loved it here..There are some wonderful memories at this
place.. The trails that go down the one side of the falls and up the
other are the old carriage trails the Indians used to transport their
canoes up and down the falls-wasnt a good idea to try to go down
them..that IS quite a drop even tho it doesnt look it.. Every time I
would go home..we made a visit there and as you can see it is
well worth a visit for such a lovely place, no matter what time of
year that you go there....Its ALL good...:-)

I hope you liked my little photo show..and getting to meet my
mom on this Mothers Day.. I sure enjoyed going thru all these
old photos. As I did, I remembered all the wonderful stories
connected with them that I could tell for hours.. When I get my
book put together with all my memories..I think it will be a good
thing..I hope you feel like you have seen another glimpse into the
life of this GORGEOUS FEEBLE WEEBLE :-) I worked VERY
hard today to connect my 3 in 1 to be able to scan these for
today..and I did NOT eat lunch or dinner so guess what???
I AM STARVED...bet you KNEW I was gonna say that hey? :-D

Oh..update on the burnt hand..I have a huge blister on the very
baseof my thumb at the bottom of my palm..its where my hand
rests when I push my chair or transfer. Needless to say doing
this rollin and scootin has gotten to be a bit of a hard thing to
do.. There is one major blister and 2 smaller on top of that.. I
did run the cold water on it as I was right next to the sink..Some
splashed on the back of my hand as well..i can only describe the
pain ..as instantly taking my breathe away thats how bad it hurt..
I will have to watch this close .since it is in a really bad spot...
and this thumb and hand were already bad..*sigh*..oh well..I can
still roll..and if I go slow enough (ARRGHH) i can use the other
side of my palm to push this chair and transfer..(I HATE SLOW)..

Speaking of slow..I am on dial up today..the cable went out last
nite..get this..the lady said "they had to wait for the SNOW to go
before they could do any kind of work in your area" SNOW???
THIS is COMCAST..lol.snow.?. we havent had snow in Months!!!
I just have a hard time when these big companys tell you some
of the most LAME excuses for their bad service..this is uncalled
for to been out all this time..its 8:39 and cable went out before
midnite last nite..I had to get a backup and sadly got AOL..but oh
well I aint stayin off line..I could have gotten the free 10 hours from
net zero but I couldnt get ONLINE To do it.. ahhhh the joys of daily
life...wait till tomorrow my phone line will be burning up.. :-)
well time to hit publish..and raid my kitchen..hope y'all had a great
time with your Mums..and Moms and Mother's..nitey nite..:-)

Y'all have a good one now Y'hear? luv ya ..& thanks :-)
Always, Lois ****

May God Bless you today,
I'm so honored to call you friend,
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

My mother suffered from hypoglycemia which gave her mood swings. I control it by drinking milk or eating yogurt.
We had a tight knit family.
Now my brother lives in Illinois and my sister lives in Maryland and my daughter is in Illinois. we keep in contact by e-mail and phone and get together about once every four years or so.

Thanks for the interesting post. I really enjoyed seeing photos of your mother and, of course, you. I really enjoy your stories about growing up. You mom was a fine woman.

I don't know how you manage to remember the colors of the dresses! I also am amazed that you could type such a long entry despite your burn.

I couldn't see my mother for mother's day, but we did have brunch with my mother in law, who I also am quite close to.

There is lots of excitement here. I live in the part of New England where all the floods are, and I was nearly unable to get home after out brunch because of flooded roads and endangered bridges. In my town we had more than 15 inches of rain between last Tuesday and early yesterday evening. We had more than 12 inches between Saturday and Sunday alone. I live on a hill, so I am in no danger besides a water running into my basement as fast as I can pump it out, but at the moment there is no way to drive off the hill. My daughter is stranded at her school because a dam broke, and will probably have to stay there at least one night.

Morning Gray, I typed a little at a time..very slowly, just like I'm rolling..very slowly..

Ive seen the news..and it sure is bad out there..well try to stay dry, sometimes those hills can be a good thing cant they?..

Hope you & your family stay High & Dry.. take care..better gas up the boat lol.. :-)
    Always, Lois****
