~2 Loving People~

I was looking really close at these photos..remembering these
2 very dear people.. They came over from Camborne, in
the UK..Cornwall... They were my mother's parents.. What I
noticed MOST about this photo..look how they hold me..My
Gramma has her right hand behind her, holding MY hand that
is holding her.. See her hand on the other side of me, my
left side? Look at Grandpa.. His arm around my shoulders.. I
remember that day.. It was a nice fall day...My mother took
this photo.. I believe my dad was off hunting grouse in the
woods.. we stopped on the side of the road not too far from
this spot was a picnic table where my mother and gramma
had set up snacks and of course thermos bottles of coffee
and tea.
My grandpa, his name was Sidney, loving man, very tall and
he LOVED flowers and rabbits and gardening.. He had pens
down in back of the house where he had huge cages with
rabbits in them.. He sold them to local people for food.. I can
remember how he would take me to one of the cages when a
mother rabbit had babies.. He very carefully would pull the downy
fur away that was covering them.. He used a stick so that the
mother wouldn't know the babies had been touched .. He warned
that if we touched them the mother would kill them..and I SURE
didn't want THAT on my conscience.. I looked at those tiny babies..
and they were so cute.. I had the best time with them when they
got older.. Gramma always saved scraps so I could go down and
feed them when I stayed there. His rabbits were huge. I had some
photos of them..but sadly I couldn't keep the album they all were
in.. I remember them though.. and they were MASSIVE animals..

Both of my Grandparents loved the outdoors and gardening and
I can remember the lillys and daffodils..tulips were a special favorite
and pansy's.. Their garden was full... They had a vegetable garden
that was almost as big as a football field it seemed to me.. My
Grandpa had one of those old scythe.. A long handled sharp thing
that he would swing back and forth and cut all the tall grass along
the edge of the garden.. Their house was not really at the top of a
hill but on the side, sort of on a ridge that ran the length of the town.
There had been mines back then all along that river.. there were pits
where many had caved in.. Grandpa would walk every day along a
path that was at the top of them, was a beautiful view of the town
below.. When they found him that morning.. he had gone for one of
his favorite sunset walks, he had a log there that he sat on..smoked a
cigarette..then walk back home... That sunset evening before..he
didn't make it back to his house..but he did go Home...

Gramma carried on.. sold that huge house and got a wonderful
little apartment.. 3 rooms that over looked the town.. she loved it..
She had all her favorite things there, especially her rocking chair,
which she had by the window.. When I would go down town with
my friends, I always made sure I went by and saw her, as I came
down the side walk I could see her sitting there, just like I used
to when I ran down that path to her waiting on the porch with both
her arms and the door wide open waiting for me... As I ran up to
the door I could see her waving and getting up going to the top
of the stairs waiting for me to yell "Hi Gramma, I'm here !" She
was such a sweet lady..

When I went off to college, to Nursing School, I would get cards
from her with sweet letters..and always a few dollars for me.. I
made sure I would visit every time I went home.. When she knew
I was coming.. she would make Some of her wonderful pea soup,
or even a pasty for me.. or some of her Heavy Cake.. When she
passed on.. My mother told me she found a huge bag of cards
that she had received over the years from her children and friends
for various occasions, they started to throw them away but thought
perhaps a photo or something might be inside the card.. They
found photos and letters..but also money..she never took the money
out..and left it in the cards.. We never did know why she never used
it.. I know Gramma always told me, "you have to do what you have
to do, the best way you can..and depend on your self, Lois, and
you can do anything". She was a dear lady.. Her name was Beatrice
Violet...

Well I just went rolling right down memory lane didn't I? Its so nice
though to look at these old photos..and to remember.. I will be
honest and say that to remember these great people and that day
brings tears to my eyes.. but theyre good kind, ones of sweet
memories..that are so good to remember...

Now I have to remember the way to my kitchen..Donnie is coming
over to pick up a few things I had Penny get today..My Dolly is having
a baby shower on Saturday and I want to give him some things
to take to it.. I wont be going..I just don't like going out in this snow..
and I know it wont be gone by then...So a snack and some TV and
of course my GORGEOUS WEEBLE "Nitey Nite" :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya, and thanks.. :-)
Always, Lois ****

God Bless you, is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend";
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again.....

Lois it is so nice to have so many wonderful memories, you were very blessed.
I think I had a good childhood too.
It has been another long day here...Patsy my friend that had surgery on her shoulder Dec 6th, when she fell she undid everything... will have the surgery again March 13, the Doctor said it will take twice as long to heal this time and her arm will have to be brace up for 6 weeks...
I just about cried right then in front of the doctor and Patsy.
End of this month will have her moved into her new place, and she will be on first floor too...
Going to give Patsy a perm in the morning.
    Love all your pictures Lois.
    God bless you my friend.
    Mary

rabbits: In the DDR or German Democratic Republic after WWII meat was hard to find so people raised rabbits. Imagine a whole country raising rabbits. I was told by an ex-Luftwaffe man that right after the war in the West, people did not get enuf rations and that many elderly starved to death - sad.

    Hi, Honey,
What lovely memories! Thank you for sharing them with us. I bet, if you shut your eyes, you can still feel their arms around you - and, as you say, shed a tear.
    Take care, Honey,
