~Working Girl~

When I worked in Houston I had a couple of different jobs..
First one was in a pool hall and a bar, I didn't like them..I
didn't drink, still don't. When I met Sid at the bar and we got an
apartment when he got the job at the Admiral Motel on North
Main, that's when I started my years as a motel manager
and apartments and houses that Bill Lane owned, he was a
attorney in Houston. Sid and I split up, I married Willie who
was worked for Bill too.. So From there when Willie quit being
maintence for him and went to work for Imperial Crating,
with Sam and his partner, that's when I started my job as a
marketing support specialist..which I loved. I got to phone
tons of people and what woman doesn't like talking on the
telephone? :-)
That's me at Brand XPac dated 7-28-81 geez just about NOW !!
only 27 years ago..wow...I was GORGEOUS then too !
see? ive not changed.. Shorter..but still ME :-)
When Sam left imperial and started his own company ,
National, I went with as his executive assistant .. He
taught me all the ins and outs of marketing..I learned all
I could as I loved it.. I left National and went to work for
Brand XPac, for Jack , as Sales Coordinator..that's where
that photo is from .. I made cold calls to prospective
customers to try to persuade them to use OUR company,
as I KNEW we were the best packing company in Houston.
That's my car, was a runnin thing..nothing stopped her.. It
looks like a GTO..but its a LeMans... great car...That's my
dog Brandy behind me.. she LOVED to ride... I even some
days took her to work with me...she was my girl.. I miss
that dog..

A packing company or export crating company is one that
prepares shipments to be sent over seas...Usually oil rig
equipment back then... The customer would call and ask for
an estimate to put their equipment into one of those big huge
metal boxes that you see on ships. To fill those things you
have to block and brace the stuff or it will bounce all over and
get damaged... We had an old carousel that was just the most
gorgeous thing I have ever seen.. Apparently it was in Houston
for a show and it had to be sent back to Paris... Each piece
had to be placed carefully then wood 2 by 4's to block and hold
each piece in place...To watch them disassemble it was amazing
and the whole time it was there we all were out there at one time
or another to watch.. I helped sometimes to wrap the horses..they
were just lovely..and I could just see some child riding that going
round in circles listening to the music that played.. We could crate
up anything- didn't matter Willie was good at doing that work and
his crew was the best...fast, good and kept the deadline...

In the photo I have on a favorite Sundress..the jacket came off and it
was a nice cool dress for the hot Houston summers.. I always
dressed up, I never wore pants to work .. I wore heels and the whole
bit. It was a good excuse to play dress up every day.. It did bother
the other girls working there as they said they couldn't afford to wear
something different every day.. I could..cuz I knew where to shop!!!
I was a dedicated thrift store shopper.. I could take 20 bucks and get
a new outfit for the next month and that's what I did. I'm still that way.
I only get something new if its a gift.. I don't buy NEW...not clothes any
way...my sis helps me a lot with clothes, bless her heart... :-) we are
alike in so many ways... its amazing...

My sis called yesterday.. shes doing good..but when I answered the
phone she was all out of breath which scared the bejeezzus out of
me.. I right quick asked "WHATS WRONG??" I love her calls but I
am always prepared for some news of one of the kids or Stanley
getting in something... But she had been working out in her yard,
said her new house has flowers planted everywhere and I guess the
lady that lived there, as she was in a wheelchair, couldn't work out
in her gardens... Shirley said Bev was there and had taken some
photos.. I'm anxious to see...Ive not been to my sisters house since
2000.. 8 years.. boy, that's a long time...She comes here and I'm
glad she does...She has this new house Id like to see it, Bev is
sending them to me and a photo of herself.. I have one but she says
its an older one..so when she sends another I will introduce you to
my Honeygirl Bev...shes that too.. wonderful girl..the kind of
daughter or niece any mother or Auntie are proud to have..

Well I'm done for today and so ready to get out of this chair.. I have
a callous on my tail bone from sitting too long :-) no wonder my butts
flat hey? :-) Ive been up since 5:15 I'm tired of sitting..time for a lay
down :-) not before a snack tho..and my GORGEOUS WEEBLE
"NiteyNite".. :-)

Y'all have have a good one now, Y'hear? Love ya and THANKS!!!
Always, Lois ****

God Bless You, is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend"
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
until I write again .....

Hey I love the pix ... you in the skinny mode is really great. I think it would have been fun to connect with you then ... I'd show a time whooie-whooie. I think it takes a special talent to "work" the telephone ... open ... and up front ... a little flirtacious but still business like. No doubt about it ... you are a neat lady.
