~Happy Mom's Day~ :-)

Mothers Day today. I dug out some of the photos of the
tons I have and picked a few of my favs that showed
how I really remember her. She died in 1990. 7 months
after my dad. Its a sad way to remember her, but she
missed my dad so badly she comitted suicide. She just
couldn't go on without him.. They were married 56 years.
She was a wonderful lady, smart, yet didn't even get
through 8th grade. She had to quit to help support the
family. Was the great depression back then.. She told
me many stories about that time.
My mother, not my birth mother, her name was Violet
Beatrice, she was born in Cambourne, Cornwall, England.
She came over with my grandmother when she was 8.
Mom had to quit school and get a job, and the one she
got was delivering milk for the local dairy. She married
my dad in 1929. They lived in the same house all their
lives and I have to say she loved my dad till the day she
died. She was a good wife and mother.. She taught me
well.. just like my dad.
When I think of her, I see her like in that photo of her
fixing a meal... Seemed she was always in the kitchen.
She was an excellent cook...and in that photo you see a
red and white striped jar thing on the left.. That's a 3
layer cookie jar... and inside that are 3 different kinds
of HOMEMADE cookies.. I don't think she ever bought
a store cookie in her life.. :-) She loved her flowers and
plants.. look in the window, she loved cactus and each
one had a very special pot that she had them in .. I still
have many of them. Summer was always flowers.. every
where. Her favorite flowers were daisies, or brown eyed
susans. Her other favorite thing was music.

Every room had a radio, and what ever room she was in,
even the bathroom, she had it on. She knew the words
to every hymn.. and if she couldn't have a radio on she
hummed or sang one.. Her favorite was "In The Garden".
She was one of the oldest members of her Church, its
a small beautiful one that I married David in, its still
there in the center of Iron River. As she cooked and
worked she sang.. I think that's why I love music like I
do.. Never a day went by that I didn't listen to some
type.. from gospel to rock and roll...

I sat for a few minutes this morning and thought of all
the memories I have of her.. She was very determined
and orderly, honest to a fault and taught me how to cook
and sew. Which have stayed with me all my life. She knew
what would carry me through. Ive always kept a sewing
machine with me, no matter what, because I knew I could
make a living with one if I had to. Mom taught herself how
to sew, to have clothes back then you had to make them,
and she was as good a seamstress as she was a cook. Look
at the 3 of us.. She made everything we have on.. my skirt
and blouse, my sisters, and her dress.. She could make any
thing.. That's why I love to sew, being the way I am.. I didn't
and DONT like having clothes the same as every one else !
I make my own and no one has what I do ... I LOVED the
fact my mom could make anything I wanted to wear.. even
my coats. See whats by my mom? One of her flower beds.
I believe this photo was Easter but I don't know the year.
Gail was still home and I guess I am about 10 or 11. I dunno
but-I know I'm GORGEOUS :-)

I missed a lot not being with my sons.. To be called Mom, or
Mum as Mark says, I cant even write the feeling it gives me.
I missed hearing or seeing that name all these years, which
cant be made up.. But things have changed and I CAN be the
MOM or MUM again.. and even the GRAN...for real .. Its a
good feeling. Kimmie always called me "MOTHER!".. and usually
that's just how she said it.. Donnie calls me Gran, just like
Kelli does or Nikki and Amber. :-) To Tyler I'm Nan... :-) Just
so I'm something to someone I'm grateful :-)

I didn't make my very best favorite food yesterday, so 3
guesses what my dinner is gonna be today? Well its a special
day so I can..Well that's my excuse anyway :-) Time to put
my GORGEOUS WEEBLE "Happy Mom's Day", post and go
and EAT! :-)

Y'all have a good one, Y'hear? Love Ya and THANKS!
Always, Lois ****

"God Bless You" is my prayer today,
I'm honored to call you "friend".
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

My mother was not a great cook but she tried. I am a fair cook. She did not use herbs or spiced much. Sometimes on aSaturday morning I'll cook for 3 or 4 houirs so that I can have meals during the week. My freezer has about 14 meals on wheels. They are lunches prepared for senior citizens. I doctor them with herbs and marjarine - I love to eat, but I am within 10% of what I should weigh.

    Hi, Honey,
What lovely memories. That cookie jar looks very much like "Cornish Ware". It is still being made, I think, in blue and white. We had quite a lot in yellow and white, but I didn't know they did it in red and white. A special for the U.S.A. perhaps? I guess it being "Cornish Ware" is what attracted your Mum - a little bit of home?
    Take care, Honey,
    Luv Ya,
    Raife
