~The 2 Dollar Bill~

I was talking to a friend today about the difference of money here
and in other countries.. and what the exchange rate and really who's
dollar so to speak is worth more.. I get really confused on that
stuff... I lived in Canada for awhile, about 4 months or so...Niagara
Falls, talk about a GREAT place..very touristy but wasnt expensive
to rent an apartment there but we were not allowed to get jobs there.
Could rent an apt, get a phone even but not jobs, we would have had
to give up our citizenship to the states... The money exchange back
then was great.. I had all money from the states and when I changed
it to Canadian I almost doubled what I had..THAT was terriffic!!!
Worked real good for us... but then we had to leave as we had to work
thats when we moved down the river sorta to Buffalo, NY. Now..
THAT was TOWN...wow..I think EVERY restaurant in that city
delivered. THAT was so great...Nothin like delivery ...wish more than
just the Pizza places here did..

I told my friend..that I have some 2 dollar bills..he had never
heard of them...English money is so different than ours..
all their stuff is ODD lol no ..just different..like weights..they
weigh in STONES...well hmmm. how can a person weigh as
much as a ROCK? lol.. I scanned my 2 dollar bill..well I have
5 of them... The one up top has a first day of issue stamp on
it.. as it is the first day of issue for the 2 dollar bill and the stamp
in 1976... its postmarked...My ex boss gave them to all his
employees.. said one day they would be valuable because of
the stamp and post mark and both were newly issued on that day.
Boy, now wouldnt THAT be great? hmmm ebay here I come lol...

These 5 , 2dollar bills I have..they could tell you a story too.. Poor
things..There was a little neighborhood store..just a few doors
down..and we always went there to get odds and ends of what
we needed. The man that ran it was SO nice.. We lived on Hertel
Avenue.. We would get so broke before payday..and take those
5 bills down to that store..and ask that man.."would you hold
these and PLEASE not turn them in..and we will be back on
payday to get them?" This DEAR man..did just that.. He held
onto those 5 bills and gave us Ten dollars worth of food..bread
and peanut butter n jelly , food to last us till payday.. we had to
do this quite a few times ..but he sure helped us out...that was
such a kind and generous thing to do.. He didnt have to hold
those bills for us.. and we had NO choice but to spend them.
Things were short for a while there..but he did, how nice hey?

Every payday, the VERY first thing we did was RUSH to that
little store and he would cash our checks and give us back
our 5 two dollar bills... We did this many many times..till we
each got raises and did a little better... But that was so nice
of him to do..he kept them safely in a box for us so they didnt
get damaged even... And did not even let anyone know he
was doing this.. Needless to say we were VERY grateful...
Before we moved from Buffalo we did go back to that store
and tell him again how much he really helped us.. NOt too
many would have done that for complete strangers... He was
such a nice man.. He will have MANY stars in his crown I think.

It wasnt such a big deal to him, he would just smile and put
them in a box he had there and said if he wasnt there thats
where they were and he left orders that they were ONLY to be
given back to us.. how wonderful...he had NO IDEA what it meant
to us, and It meant whether we went hungry for a few days or
not.. And he saw, we spent it on food..not cigarettes , food.. I
think he knew we sure needed a little helping hand. I still have
these 5 two dollar bills... I lived in Buffalo hmmm in 1988...
been awhile....and I got that 2 dollar bill when I lived in Texas ..
lol.. the other 2, I honestly dont remember.. I know 2 my dad
saved and gave me 2 once, when I went home on holiday..He
saved them for me...the dates on the others are 1964....

Just the smallest of things..just brings back memories.. Ive been
contemplating my life lately and what do I really want to do with
it..and I see these things from my past, and think of where I have
been and what I have done..and HOW did I EVER get to this
time of life.? .when only yesterday it seems I was younger and
thinner OF COURSE, but still GORGEOUS-- but.. look how
things have changed and what am I going to do till this course
does come to an end? AND.....I have NO idea... :-)

The ONLY course I know right NOW..lol..you know it..is the
course OUT to the kitchen lol... The boy is already out there .. I
gave him a piece of his tape a while ago and hes just a happy
camper.. havin a good time..I run out of that that tape Im in BIG
trouble...I would NEVER hear the end of it...I wont EVEN talk
about lunch.. just well.. its one of the "name it and you can
have it" variety... I have some fresh frozen shrimp in the freezer
and I think I hear them calling me lol...so of COURSE...Its
that time to say Nitey Nite... ;-)

Y'all have a good one now Y'hear? luv ya.. and thanks hey? :-)
Always, Lois ****

May God Bless you today,
I'm so honored to call you friend,
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

Some of us live on the western edge of the Eurozone and keep up with the money exchange rates. If you go to canada now, I think their $ is about .80 cents of our $. It takes $1.26 to buy a Euro. The synmbol for the Euro is a C with an equal sign through it. The BBC World news has the exchange rates at the bottom each day on a crawl. The minimum wage in the UK just went up to $10.05US. In France they have a 35 hour work week and 7 weeks of vacation each year.

I go to Canada fairly often and am careful how and when I purchase Canadian currency. I work within a few blocks of two places that sell foreign currency and buy Canadian dollars periodically when the rates are favorable.

When I used to work in a human services organization I got to know the owners of some of the local stores in low income neighborhoods. I learned that to some extent their most important function was financial services. They let neighborhood families keep tabs and some stores had really large remittance businesses to send money to other countries. Some were ethical and more than fair, but some were remarkably exploitive, especially the ones that cashed paychecks.

As the owner of a consulting business I of course have no paid vacations- I simply have to choose to not make money or exploit a gap between contracts. It means that I rarely feel free to take vacations, though I really should do so. I often work 60 hour weeks and must purchase health insurance for my family an am responsible for my own retirement. I can't complain, however, since I enjoy my independence.

    Have a good day.

    Morning Gray,
I know when I lived in PA, my first marriage, there was a local Italian store..we carried a tab there and they even delivered the groceries to your door!! Just had to call in your order, fresh meat..was a great store. Dont see those places at all anymore.

Being in business for yourself has its drawbacks and pluses..Hard to take a vacation knowing you could be earning instead of spending lol...

Hope you have a good day today Gray :-) Im gettin ME some fresh booberries today :-) lol...and I am gonna eat them ALL :-) MMMM AND, Dawn was here last nite..a friend of mine has a GARDEN!! growin ALL kinds of stuff.. Wait, I'll be callin her this evening lol... :-)
    Always, Lois****
