~My Little Glass Birds~

Going thru all my things, well my memories.. I came across
these 3 tiny little glass birds..you see the penny in front of
them..the pink and white looks like pelican sort of bird,,the
red one in the middle of course is a white eyed rabbit and
the blue duck, I think, on the right.. They are glass and very
fragile..how they have survived is amazing..but there they
are. as I unwrapped them it brought back the time long long
ago when I was just a little girl and played with them..
My mom and I would go up to visit my grandmother, (dad's mom)
usually to bring her something, mom was a skilled seamstress,
but grandmother made hand made button holes better than any
machine.. I can still see her delicate hands, skin almost clear,
transparent- her fingers bent from the arthritis..but she loved to
do her tatting and hand work ..knitting, crocheting..she was very
skilled, and would just smile when mom would tell her how nice
and perfect her handwork was.. I have some of her tatted hanker
chiefs and doilies..the one on the back of the recliner is one..its
lovely..

While mom and grandmother would visit I would get these 3 little
birds, grandmother kept them where I could reach them..she didnt
mind I played with them at all..just said "Lois, Dear..please play
gently with them wont you?" I would go into the dining room and
there was this big dining room table..the center base was huge
and round..from it extended the 4 wide legs that had like claws at
the end with ridges so you could see each toe so to speak..I
would hop the birds up and down.and they would talk to each other.
I played with them for a long time..when I got older I found that
grandmother kept her wonderful box of jewelry in the down stairs
bathroom..it used to be the pantry, she had no cabinets either, in
her small kitchen..when grandmother couldnt climb the stairs any
more in her huge house..4 bedrooms and bath up stairs..they
converted the pantry into a bathroom for her..She didnt go upstairs
for years..yet knew where every single thing was up there..I tested
her many times lol..she always made Mrs. Fansher tell her just
exactly where she put something, so she would know.. Im the same
way..put it on the top shelf on the left, in the back lol..

The three little birds are so fragile..I am so pleased that through all
this moving they have survived..I have not seen these birds since I
was with my ex, they have been packed up all this time.. To go
through things I had to leave packed up ..is so much fun..and I am
enjoying it..to see these old things.. I love it.. I am enjoying
unpacking my little treasures..and remembering all these great
memories that I had forgotten were packed away..

I am so pleased with my kitchen..I played in there all day.. It really
looks so nice with the white against the dark blue then the bright
yellow to perk it up again.. I put some of my tea pots on the shelf
where that picture was..Donnie took that down and put that
old shelf there and it looks so nice.. I was so very careful placing
each one of those things up there ..but I did it.. I made sure my
hand was working good..if I had dropped one thing..it would have
hit my Winnie (cookie jar) or one of my oil lamps..and that would
NOT be a good thing.. I found one of my suncatchers that is blue
as well it looks so nice in the window ..now I just have to keep the
boy from it..if he sees a suction cup he will tear down a suncatcher
just to get it.. he cleared off the door i had full of them..only ones
left were high up he couldnt reach!! rotten child..lol..You see in the
photo below I found Winnies kids..lol..and that white pot on the
shelf? was my moms made the best egg shell coffee EVER.. My
hurricane lamps I found in an old car, the photo on the side of
the shelf the little girl looks just like Kelli when she was that age.
she has the biggest bluest eyes..looks so good there... scuze
the blurry- was hard to focus..I bet I went back and forth a dozen
times to take these..I love it tho. ;-)

Nice sunday today,, I got caught up on all my reply emails..I love 'em
to read such nice things..means alot to me that you let me know your
reading and really like what I write ..no telling what these hands will
type out..almost as if they have a mind ..well mouth, of their own lol.
that you take the time to come here ..Im pleased when you tell me.
I hope y'all had a great sunday..was nice and sunny and all the snow
is gone off the walk..lol..dont need the shovel lol..but this is just the
first snowfall so..there will be more..Too bad I didnt keep the snow
blower I had..we left it up north..just couldnt take it when we moved
to Green Bay into an apt. there..be nice to have now..I bet I know
someone would be borrowing it too lol..

Well its time for the 'proud of herself' weeble to roll over to that bed
and see if TONITE I can watch tv.. my eyes just slam shut as soon
as my head hits my pillows.. go figure lol.. nitey nite... :-)

Y'all have a good one now Y'hear? luv ya and thanks :-)
Always, Lois ****

God Bless you is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend";
I pray the Lord will keep you safe
until I write again..

Hello Lois I know it late, checking my mail again before I go to bed...Got a big day ahead of me on Monday.
Awesome that you have so many wonderful memories, the tiny glass birds and rabbit might be worth some money...check it out on ebay...I don't know anymore then that...My mom knew how to do tatting, I never understand how too. It was way beyond me...Now I could knit a little made 2 sweater for my children and some knited blanket or what ever they are called.
I still do a little sewing up thing for Pam, she is so hard on clothes. I do make a few thing for Pam, it hard to fine anything for her in the stores in town she wear a 5X and I hate to order.
We still have a little snow, in a day or two it should be gone. God bless you Lois and I pray you get everything fixed the way you need it...Mary

    Hi, Honey,
Thank you for the pictures (Especially the one with the Gorgeous Weeble!!)
I know just what those memories must feel like. I found out that my Sister still has a litle soft toy dog, called Dismal Desmond!, that I used to play with round at my Grans (in Edgeware) when I was a kid, and it brought back all sorts of happy memories when I saw it.
My Mother-in-law (a lovely lady, one of nature's true Ladies) was good at crochet and knitting. I still wear, very proudly, a pair of gloves that she knitted for me when she was in her nineties, bless her.
All these lovely memories make you feeel warm inside, don't they?
    Take care, Hon. L.O.L. & G.B.H. from
    Raife

    P.S.
The shelf with all your tea-pots and the lamps and things underneath it looks great. Well done Donnie for putting the shelf up for you.
    Love from

Its so fun going thru these..When I would go home to visit..I would take out the old photo albums, my dad always commented "you know Lois, we never look at these until your home" and smile and look thru each one with me and tell me the stories behind them..sadly my sister has them all, I dont have them, any of them, only ones I managed to get before she took them..But memories are great..but its so fun to make them too!!! lol..

    Have a good day...

Those birds are quite nice. It's amazing that the younger you could treat them so well.

At Harvard there is a natural history museum where they have a huge collection of extraordinarily realistic glass flowers. You can see an article about them and why they were made here:

    www.journalofantiques.com/Feb04/featurefeb04.htm

I worked on a project in an attached building for a few years and have seem them many times. The first reaction most people have is that what they are looking at is completely impossible. The flowers are astonishingly realistic and delicate.

I enjoyed the photos, but most especially the very nice one of you. Very sexy, if I can say so.

    Have a good day today.
