Amputee life before and after...

~Stump Aches~

Its rainy here today and I don't know if that is the cause or
what but my stumps are actually driving me nuts. They are
hurting so bad. I cant sit comfy, I cant lay comfy, no matter
what I try to do they refuse to give me any relief.. I have no
idea what it is. I hesitate to call my doctor for this since I
have an appointment with the vascular Dr on the 3rd. I can
ask him then, I don't remember a time when they have hurt
me this much with no relief at all. I know the weather has
a lot to do with how they feel but its rained before and I
was not in this much discomfort with them.. I sound like
such a whiney thing these past days I think .. :-) I took one
of the phantom pain pills the Neurontin..says 3 times a
day and will make me drowsey..well I stay drowsey so I
bet this will shut me off like a light switch :-) I should think
about getting a lap top then I would just do most of my
writing in bed ..now that is LAZY lol...but I wouldnt mind
having one as a stand by though just in case something
did happen and I was bed bound for a few says, If I couldnt
get to this computer I think this poor thing would actually
cry :-) I know I WOULD :-D

I can honestly say that the Drs that amputated my legs
offered no details of what to expect or what I would feel
or experience as an amputee, but then I guess they
really wouldn't know as they arent, and could only go by
what their patients tell them.. There are 3 Drs that are
together, the main one that amputated my legs is no
longer with them and they have replaced him with a new
man.. I don't know him at all.. I only know really just one
of the other two..I had to go for a follow up visit and I
was sitting there waiting for the Dr I thought was going
to see me that I had met before..This man walks in and
I looked at him..he asked how I was and I told him..he
asked to see my stump and I looked at him and asked
"who are you?" and he told me he was Dr Jain..one of
the 3 vascular surgeons that took care of me.. I had not
seen him before that I knew of anyway.. He was very
nice but I was surprised since I didn't know him at all.. I
had seen him come into my room and ask a few times
how I was..but I had NO idea who he was , I thought was
just a orderly or something that was just checking on
patients.. I had NO idea he was my Dr until I went to that
office visit..Then I realized I HAD seen him before..We
both laughed about it..but really he should have introduced
him self to me when I was in hospital, so I knew who he
was.

A while back I was having trouble sitting and laying and I
think we decided it was the bed..and perhaps I needed a
new cushion and I know I do need a new bed and I am
wondering if a new cushion might be in order as well.. I
have one of the gel..but I cant use that at all, I sit too long
and to sit on a wrinkle well that just really hurts and gives
me all kinds of grief... I think my brother in law, Stanley has
a friend that can get foam and I may give him a call to see
if he can get a piece for me, I would get it a lot faster and
not have to go thru all the red tape like I usually do.. Im so
glad that Carolyn agreed heartily that I did need a better
bed..she is a very understanding person..I like her a lot
better than the young Dr I saw last time.. Carolyn is not a
Dr Dr she is next to being one..I know she has a lot better
bedside manor than Dr.Johnson.. But shes young too so
perhaps in time she will be more at ease .. shes got to
be no older than 18 ..no she just looks so very young. I
don't think she has been out of college very long..

I dug out my pill container that separates them into days
4 times of the day, I honestly don't like pills I have to take
more than once a day but these new ones and my BP
pills I have to take twice. I forget..and usually by late after
noon lately Im so tired that as soon as I post I go straight
to bed..watch TV and go directly to sleep :-) I'll keep the
container right here on my desk and It will be right in
front of me for a reminder..Lets see if THAT works.. I
wonder if they have some with alarms that ring to let
a person know "HEY! PILL TIME" that's what I need.

I did have a nice surprise to day though.. I did get a new
potty. Lewis and Kenny came by with a new toilet for me.
It seems small and its not up against the wall which Im
not familiar with the do's and don't's of installing pottys.
I would think tho by moving like I do on and off that it not
being supported by the wall it would cause it to wobble
or move when I move on to it.. I am very careful but it
does seem that being up against the wall would be
better.. I am glad though I have this new one..I had to
stay in there before and make sure it quit flushing, if
I didn't sometimes it would run forever.. quite a few times
when I went in there in the morning it was still running
which as expensive as water is , its not a good thing..
Now at least I don't have that worry. They didn't replace
the tub spout tho so Im hoping they will..Neither one of
them mentioned the kitchen window so Im hoping that
wont be long before they put it in.. Probly by the time
our winter is over and I wont need to worry about the
cold air.. :-)

I have some leftovers from lunch that was pretty good to
day for a change and I didn't eat it all at noon..so Im kinda
hungry and I may eat that and have one of those good
soft sugar cookies out there in the kitchen.. The rain has
stopped and Im hoping that I can get comfy and watch
some tv..but then I think that Im gonna watch TV every
nite and don't see nuthin.. I still think its Dutch he steps
on that eyes shut button on my clicker. :-) But I am ready
for a lay down, and time to say "nitey nite" :-)

Y'all have a good one now Y'hear? love ya, and thanks !
ALways,Lois ****

God Bless you is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend";
I pray the Lord will keep you safe
until I write again..

Good morning Lois, I guess it will be that when you read this...
It is real winding here right now, I guess it going to storm later tonight...Pam is here, no way she want to go home... One of those day she has...I might have to spend the night at her place again. Pam does have 24 hours staff all the time...
We are having a church dinner on Wednesday for a while...Michael sure does love that and so does Bob and I.
Going to see if Pam will go home now, sure would love to go to bed myself...
    God bless you.

    HI Lois:

I also have a new potty; we wanted a high seat style, and it worked fine at first, but eventually got stuck and the water ran on. I found the flapper valve had gotten stuck in the full upward position and did not return down to shut off the flushing, voila, H2O never stops. I complained to the plumbing supplier, and was told the chain that lifts the valve might not be aligned vertically. This will cock the valve to the sided and jam it, as the valve is made of a very soft blue vinyl and that is not at all like a ball bearing. I just bent the flushing lever over to align the chain better. No charge.

I also made an attachment to the valve assembly to prevent the flapper from rising too high and getting stuck anyway. I used a stainless hose clamp long enough to attach to the plastic pipe above the flapper hinge, and bent the end around to keep the flapper from opening too much, this alone should keep it from sticking open. Take a little time to experiment with the height and shape of the strap end.

I also discovered that the new toilets install with little rubber bumpers between the lower toilet and the tank. This allows the tank to flop back and forth, and needs to be dealt with. I installed one like this for our daughter, and made a wood piece to fit between the tank and wall, very rigid, so do not fear moving the tank if you bumb backwards against it. On mine, I put temporary shims between the tank and bottom, just thick enough to hold the tank solidly; again, no tank wobble.

    Good luck!
    Good luck!

    Hello Mary,
I slept until 7am today I am surprised..I think the pills for the phantoms are helping. I know it is a worry for you with pam..too bad they dont have a way they know when she leaves then they could stop her or escort her..Has to be so dangerous her not looking out for cars.. Perhaps closer to you might be better? I love church dinners..we had many many that I have the best memories..

Hi Leonard,, Your just handy as a button arent you?..lol.. When I call Chris, landlord to do any thing it takes him at least a month to do anything ... this potty they put in seems so small..the toilet seat even covers the flusher handle. I havent seen a toilet this small.. thanks for writing..so nice to hear from you..

Rob..you know I dont like carrots. and 1 cookie is ok..I dont eat lots of sweets.. The Dr.said all my blood work came back horribly bad, and I have to just keep these problems down and hopefully I wont go into a diabetic..

Im not going anywhere :-) Y'all cant get rid of me lol..

Hope you have a good day,I feel really good myself and I am so glad I do..I guess the extra sleep helped.. thanks!!!
    Luv ya...always,Lois ****

    Hi, Honey,
I'm SO sorry you are getting those horrid phantoms. If only they would calm down a bit, like I am told they do for some folks. I'm glad you have your new potty. If it is like the ones over here, there should be holes for at least two wood-screws in the base to hold it to the floor - mine both have four. If it is a modern cistern, it may well be smaller than the old one. They seem to have found a way to make them flush using less water and still take away the grotts efficiently. Our new one has a dual flush - half as much water for a pee! and is push-button.
Take care, my Fav. Weeble. Hope those phantoms ease. L.O.L. & G.B.H. from
    Raife

    Hi Raife,
there are 2 screws one on each side to bolt it to the floor..but the tank in back is at least 2 inches from the wall which makes me worry from getting on and off would cause it to loosen.. I know nothing about plumbing. lol..YOUR the handy dandy man you know :-D

Hope you had a good day..:-)

    Hi Again!

Sorry to have taken so long at getting back here, but I've been really busy with a lot of projects.

On top of that, I've fallen in love--and I wasn't even expecting this to happen!

I even made a little folder that pretty much tells all about him--or quite a bit about him--in a lot of different places.

Might cheer you up to look through the folder--though I know it won't take the discomfort away.

I hope you're able to get helped soon. You'll be in my prayers.

Anyway, here's the url for the folder:

    http://tinyurl.com/2ec2y5

It's fixed as a referral link so that you can receive a free membership at Writing.com should you decide to join and can then send me an e-mail there. If you don't want to join, you can always send me an e-mail to Judy's Book.

Or you can just answer back here.

Anyway, I'll try not to be a stranger.

    Hugs!
    AJ :-)
