~Scared Of Heights~

I was talking to a friend today about flying, and heights.
I don't like either of them..I lived in Niagara Falls for a
few months, and of course we toured the falls..It is such
a beautiful place, I hate to admit it..but the Canadian side
is much better for tourists than the American side. There
are sights but the town there is small..or it was when I was
there in 88. The Canadian side was wonderful..so many
things to see, museums..churches, and specials if you
were there on a honeymoon. We found a small little house
to rent behind a bigger motel..right outside the door was
a swimming pool..We had no trouble getting a phone at
all..groceries there were outrageously high..We both tried
to get jobs and couldn't. by we I mean my last husband,
David. Back then you could go across the border with
no problem at all...now I think you need a passport or
something..but I liked it there..from there we moved to
the best food city anywhere...Buffalo, NY..great town..
and some of the best food and 9 out of 10 places did
deliver..THAT was great..

In that photo you can see a tower by a bridge with a
platform sticking out of it The tower on the American
side of the falls, and a glass elevator takes you up to the top
which has a platform like arm that stretches out to get a better
view of the falls..the floor is like a grate, tiny open squares..for
the snow to get through. We decided to go up there, I was NOT
very anxious to go trust me..but I went.. When those elevator
doors opened the people in front of me stepped out and
it was my turn, I looked down and saw, to me, was NO
floor and how VERY far down the ground was below me..
I didn't say a word, and took a huge step backwards back
into the elevator just as the doors closed and David is
standing there watching me go back down on the elevator
a look of kinda laughing and wonder too... I got to the
bottom and stepped out and looked back up to the platform
and there was David, leaning over the railing, laughing, and
waving at me~!.. I waved back and went and sat down on a
bench to wait for him to come back down... He did and
laughed at me for being such a big chicken... which I was,
and still am...

Ive flown many many times..I used to go to Hawaii at least
once a year for a month to stay with my ex sister over there.
It is one of the most beautiful places Ive seen.. I loved it
there..It was a 8 hour flight from Chicago to Honolulu...but
a stop in Los Angeles.. I dreaded the announcement when
I was already nervous about there not being anything below
but deep water, and the captain would inform us we had
reached the halfway point, so we had no choice but to go
on...That made me nervous..The airport there is right on
the edge of the water..first time I saw that plane headed
for that narrow strip and if it was a fraction too low we were
gonna go swimmin for sure..On a landing in Los Angeles,
just before we got there, the captain came on, told us not
to worry about the men checking out the floor by us..they
were checking the brakes on the plane which for some
reason were not functioning.. I guess they test them just
before landing..which I would think they would know before
the plane took off.??.well..the man says, "we will stop this
plane by reversing the engines, it will work, please remain
calm".. Remain calm??? I HATE when someone tells me
that..I KNOW then that I AM going to be upset..well..the
time came and we could hear the planes hydraulics of the
wheels..then we see getting closer to the ground..the
touch down,, and suddenly this huge plane shudders so
hard,stuff flew around..you could see the vibration..then
the engines just seemed to moan in angony...then slowly
the plane coasted to a stop...I looked around and I never
saw so many HUGE eyes and Scared crazy people..
bad thing was I KNEW I looked the same way.. THAT
was awful... But that plane DID stop...

I keep saying I would love to fly to Europe..specially to the
UK, but I think about that flight and I just don't know if I could
really do it.. Maybe if I had a better stomach.. I even looked
online to see what the air fare to London is..$818.oo round
trip..that's a lot.. then food and hotel for a week or however
long.. It would be worth it though .. I honestly would like to
go...I know I have family over there..It would be wonderful to
meet them.. I wish I could win the lottery..But I have to play
it to win..I know lots of people play it, Blue in AU does..he
gets those scratchies, or rub off kind..and he does really
good.. I got 5 one day, I splurged..I got back 2...took those
back and lost on the next 2 ..Be nice to win, I would travel
here in the states...Id get a bus, and it would be great, and
even the boys could go along...I might risk flying again..but
I think I would rather take the train to Boston or out west to
Las Vegas or Seattle..That I think would be a great trip...

Well the next trip I need to make is of course to the kitchen.
Penny was here today and made some goulash for me, It
smells so good, Lunch I THINK was liver and some kind of
brown ugly veggies..one was a carrot I think..and mashed
potatoes..didn't look good at all..Dutch ran from it.. So I
am hungry..time to eat, n' say "Nitey Nite"...

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? Love ya, and thanks~!!
Always, Lois ****

God Bless you is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend";
I pray the Lord will keep you safe
until I write again..

Flying: I used to fly a lot. I was in the air force reserve, and I worked for a large corp marketing a german graphic arts product. I started flying in 1940 in a Lockheed electra - the same plane that Emelia Earhardt flew in. I flew in a couple of Dutch planes and the Canadair CL-44 to iceland. Our airforce planes were C-119s and one from our unit crashed killing 59 or so. I had just moved to Washington, DC and was saved by a move.

I love the Niagara Falls picture, wow a wonderful place to visit...A e-mail friend send pictures of Niagara Falls night lights around Christmas time. Wow it was so awesome to see.
My ears don't like flying at all, I lose my hearing for 3 weeks at a time...
I use to fly with Becky to Maryland for special doctor there for her...Becky love flying. I was so glad we got to stop those Doc visits there.
The longer and higher we got the more pain I had, yes I went to the doc...didn't help me much either.
Lois and have a wonderful day.
    God bless you.

    Hi, Honey,
I hate heights, too. Always walk on the inside of the path away from the edge, to protect Management from the wild animals that might come down the hill side!!
Momar, you were OK in that CL-44 --- it had Rolls Royce "Merlins"!!!
Love flying - that incident with the reverse thrust must have been very interesting -- a very pretty bit of flying, too.
It would be great to see you over here, Honey. Hurry up and get that Lottery ticket. Mine is a Bum one!! I don't think I've had ONE number up, yet. let alone all six!! ;o( Take care, Honey. L.O.L. & G.B.H. from
