~What Do The Scars Feel Like?~

A friend suggested I write about just what the scars on the

ends of my stumps feel like, if they feel like my other scars from

surgeries ive had or differently.. They feel quite different.. Ive

had numerous surgeries from gall bladder to bypasses, I don't

think there really is a lot left that hasnt been repaired, replaced

OR removed. But those surgical scars have no feeling like the

ones on the ends of my stumps.. They have quite a huge range

of feelings.. at least MINE do..what others feel I cant say I have

ever discussed it with other amputees.. Mine have definite
feelings, some good, some not very good...

Each stump, the scars are totally different. The right, to me is

just fine..its smooth, and looks like the other scars I have. The

left, that scar, the right side of it..for about 3 inches or so is

where it wouldn't heal for , well almost a year...that part of

the scar is wide, and to this day still gives me problems once

in a while..just like it is now, it gets very dry, and if I am not

careful what I put on it..it will irritate it horribly, then it gets all

red..and worries me..

If I am not looking and one of the cats touches the end, the

scar especially, its like a jolt, a electric shock that's how strong

the feeling is..that's the only way I can describe it..as it doesnt

really scare me, but catches me off guard..I try to keep them

away from the ends.. Even when I am laying in bed, I keep the

ends covered so they cant touch them..Remember LB sleeps

between my stumps.. He always has.. and to get to where he

wants to snuggle down, depending on which way hes coming

from my right or left..hes gonna step on one of them..He gets

between..and he starts to go in circles..round and round, until

he feels me move them wider so he has a place to curl up in

a ball and sleeps like a baby, in fact I can say I have heard

that boy snoring... His favorite place..But if he accidentally

touches the scar I know immediately...

If I am putting lotion on them and if I really massage the lotion

into the scar I feel like a tingling, a static like charge, maybe is a

way to describe it.. If I put too much pressure then it isnt a very

comfortable feeling. Each scar feels differently and I am guessing

because the right healed with no problems at all.. What is really

amazing is that the same doctors took off both legs..yet the

difference between the looks of them is quite obvious..Why the

left has a sort of folded look I have no idea and I base it on the

fact that the right was conditioned for a while to be able to use

a prosthetic.. I don't know what other reason it would be like it

Is that the left looks bigger and the end so folded.. To be honest,

I wish the left looked like the right, but I am not about to go and

have it redone just so it looks like the right one either.. No way

I would have a guarantee it would look Better and besides.. No

one has to look at it if they don't want to..

I had just gotten dressed one day after a shower and I knew that

Donnie and Dawn were expected to come by.. I hadnt paid any

attention that my left stump end was exposed..Which I have not

ever shown the ends to either of them.. Donnie was standing

there facing me and looked down and saw the left..bare..and he

didn't get really upset..but he said "Gran, I don't want to see the

end..cover it for me please".. which I did immediately..and it did

not hurt my feelings at all.. Donnie I think still sees me with them,

he pays no attention they are gone..by the left showing.. he saw

that..and he didn't want to.. He pukes if he gets too close to a

hospital hes so sensitive.. When I bought my desk and asked him

to go and get it.. he phoned.. I could hear Dawn laughing..saying

"Don, DONT call!" He said.."Gran, arent you going to need a

chair with your desk?" I laughed, said "No, honeyboy, I come

with a chair, remember?" I could hear him mumble to Dawn, "why

did you let me call?" I could hear them laughing..just like I was..

We laugh about that still today...

I can compare the feeling of how it feels if someone bumps my

chair.. I feel every second of it.. its the same with the ends of my

stumps.. Some days they are more sensitive.. when the weather

is bad or going to be bad, my stumps feel like they are twice

the size of what they are..like they are going to explode, they

actually hurt when they do that, so much I almost wish they would

so it would stop...I mentioned awhile back that the some of the

feeling has diminished, but I notice today that they feel almost

the same as they always have, I do notice that my hips get a lot

more achey tho..as Ive learned different ways to sit.. not really

lady like but..well the only males here are my boys and they

don't care how their mother sits in her chair as long as they can

sit with me sometimes.. :-)

I was woke up this morning at 6:23 by my youngest boy, he was

coming in and running up and down me, would sit on my chest,

right in my face and MEOW~!!!.. then lick my eye lids.. NOW,

THAT will make you GET UP... He ran full blast into the bathroom

jumped up on the sink, looked up at the ceiling and let out a

horrible MEOWWWW.. I looked up there and there was a spider

web hanging down.. driving him totally insane.. I couldn't find any

thing to reach it..the brooms are in the basement stairway.. So I

sat for a minute.. hmmm.. how was I gonna get that down so this

cat would shut UP!.. I got a towel.. and opened it long ways, rolled

It a bit.. and took a swing up at the hanging spider web.. Oh, did

I mention it was right next to the bathroom ceiling light? :-) I

swung the towel..and it was a HEAVY towel.. it got the spider web,

yes.. but it also got the ceiling light..it came falling down..luckily,

it hit the top of my clothes hanging there, I was sitting close enough

to it..that when it did I dropped the towel and grabbed the light

cover.. and It did NOT break.. It wont get put back up till Monday,

but I wont have to listen to this cat now and I have a brighter bath

room :-) Its such fun here...wanna come visit? :-)

Time for me to visit my kitchen and have some dinner..I didn't eat

too much today but I don't know what I want.. I still may make that

meat pie.. I have everything I need.. that sounds so good too and

the smell it puts in here, its a good one..This GORGEOUS
WEEBLE is hungry.. "Nitey Nite" :-)
