~Almost Easter~

Almost Easter..and it has been up in the 70's. here.. I remember going
to a Sunrise Service with my parents when I was younger..we spent
all morning inside the church..When it came time to leave about noon
they opened the doors and we were snowed in LOL, My dad had to
walk home and get the jeep and his plow and help everyone to get out
of the parking lot..It was a beautiful morning when we went there .Here
my Dad was local weatherman and didn't know we were going to be
snowed in lol..No..he didn't predict the weather he was an official
weather reporter where he took official readings of the temperature
in the morning and at night..I watched him many times go out to that
big white box on that stand- open it up- Inside were 2 thermometers
about 12 inches long..laying on their sides..One my dad would tip up
horizontal and the front one he would spin..That gave him the high and
low temperatures ...He kept a log of them and every so often would
get his name in the paper when it was super cold and he would call
and let them know it was a record or something..He LOVED doing
that sort of thing...He faithfully every day did this for years...He was
referred to as Iron Countys OWN offical weatherman.. he enjoyed
reading that..I liked to as well...:-)

I did NOT get any Easter candy via Raelynn. I was SO tempted..I
LOVE those marshmallow chickies they make with all that sweet
sticky sugar all over them..bite them and they just squish in your
mouth MMMM and my other 2 favs at Easter are BLACK jelly
beans..and of course the caramel..but they are hard to find.. I love
Licorice..only the black tho..and if its fresh..nice and soft..It is so
good..RaeLynn had some anise candy , the hard kind..and they
were really good...When I was little my grandpa would come into my
bedroom after gramma had tucked me in, when I would spend an
overnite at their house..(which I LOVED to do) and after he kissed me
goodnight too he would shove a big piece of licorice into my mouth
and whisper "shhhh dont choke and dont tell gramma" ..EVERY time..
Like I would? lol

I don't have any plans for Easter, my sis is having all her kids over for
dinner, like she always does..it being so nice they will hide eggs for
the little grands..although I dont think she has too many real little
grands now i think most are getting pretty big..lets see she has..hmm
15 grands..and 2 great grands..the greatgrands are small guys ...
only a few years old..One I havent even seen...My great grand niece
Amy her youngest son..her oldest ..well even AMY for that matter I
havent seen her since my other nieces funeral in 2003..thats a long
time.. Familys are so spread out anymore and no one knows anyone
I wonder if those boys know they have a weebly great auntie lol...I
think I am the only one they have...I have so many wonderful memories
of Easter dinners that my mother would have with family gathered
around the table..was such a great time..Ham..scalloped potatoes..
sweet potatoes..baked corn...MMMM and of course her home made
bread..and for desert? usually a lovely Lemon Pie...my dads favorite.
The meringue was 3 inches high...and was so delicious..I wouldnt
mind a Easter dinner like that again ...:-)

Well I did it again.. I sat here and wrote my self right into HUNGRY lol
Now I will have NO choice but to go and get something to eat..I have
been very good about that pound cake with the raspberry stuff on it
I have 2 pieces left..I may make one of my own but use Lime Jello..
I LOVE Lime..now- THAT would be delicious..OK OK enough ...no
more food talk-- time for food ACTION.. nitey nite...:-)

Y'all have a good one now Y'hear? LUV YA..& thanks bunches..

Always, Lois****

May God Bless you today,
I'm so honored to call you friend,
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

    Dear Lois,
Eeee, luv, yer ought to try Pontefract Cakes, they're reet grand.
Pontefract is a town in Yorkshire where they used to make these soft, squidgy discs of liquorice, about the size of a silver Dollar, I guess. You can still get them. Also liquorice allsorts - sheet or bar liquorice layered with a sort of coconut paste or coconut ice. Those are pretty good, too.
I am busy watching my spelling and punctuation. I am sitting near the barbie with a tinny of Fosters XXXX by me, my Marmite and peanut butter sarnies and my hat with the corks on strings round the edge,on my head to keep the rain off, so I figure I should be O.K. lolol ;o)
I miss putting Easter Eggs around the garden for our five Scallywags. We had to be content with sending them a Cream Egg wrapped up in a five pound note, a bit like the "Owl and the Pussy Cat"!!
Loved the pic, the night before last. Have added it to my collection of treasures!!
Take care, my dear. Lots of love and hugs from
    Raife

We lived in Kansas City and celebrated both easter and passover. My mother hid 1 doz eggs which had been dyed. We had chocolate bunnies. For the passover seder we did the whole think. My gradad had been educated in Poland, and knew hebrew he could read the prayer boook at 100mph. Even so, it was from 6:30-98:30 to eat and get done with the prayers. I do not celebrate anything now except the god of herbe.
