~Wanna Go Fishin Again?~ :-)
I didn't know really what to write about tonite and I thought I
would tell you another little fishing story about my ex, David,
one we took on either a Saturday or a Sunday - were the days
we always went..and we usually were at the places we wanted to
fish before sunup...we watched the sunrise many many times
but that's when the good fishing really starts..the fish come in
at nite i think..and on the way back out is when they are on the
move which is just before daylight.. My dad always went before
he went to work.
On this particular day we went to a place on one side of a Dam.
it was excellent fishing as it was not a long trek for the fish from
the big lake..Lake Michigan ... This was when I lived in Green Bay
and we would go to a little town on the edge and fish where the
dam was..lots of trout would go there for the deep water and was
a good feeding stream that led there too...for the fish that is :-)
David and I carried all the tackle and chairs etc down to the side
of the base of the dam..was very rocky.but some good spots for
fishing-..there were special places all down the little river to the
big lake..This spot here, at the dam was very popular and why
it was good to get there early...I didn't fish I just sat and looked
around and drank coffee while David did his usual fishing
technique..cast out and let it sink and prop the pole and wait..
I wasn't sure what kind of fishing was really good that day myself
so I thought his lure would work. However that time of year was
when the May Flies were hatching.....you could see them on
the water..hovering and flying all over..A few times I saw a fish
jump and mentioned that to David.."seems the flies are out"
he just shrugged and kept fishing..and NOT getting a bite..
This went on for quite a time, as usual..and I kept watching these
flies..and every so often see a fish jump... After a good while I
mentioned to David.. "I think you need to use a fly" ..He turns,
looks at me.."why, do you think that? and I don't have any flies
with me." I looked at him and pointed out the flies hovering on the
water and flying around..just as a fish jumped...I said "see? they
seem to want flies" again he said "well I dont have any flies..and
I dont think I have any hooks either"... I shrugged and didnt say
anything else..
I watched him cast, and fish for quite a while, I finally said.."do you
want me to make you a fly?" He actually LAUGHED at me.!!
Says.."YOU can make a fly? I dont have any feathers or hooks,
so how ya gonna make a bloody fly, come on.. get real" and
went back to fishing HIS way...I sat there..and looked at the ground.
I plundered thru his tackle box..got some line...and he was right--
there was not that first hook of ANY size.. and definitely NOT a
feather..lol.. So I started to check out the ground closer and
started to walk around.. I found 2 old rusty hooks..from some past
fisherman that had dropped them then started to look for a feather.
I turned and saw these white things laying there and sure enough
were 3 white feathers from a sea gull.. :-)
I took the hook and feather and used the fishing line to attach the
feather to the hook.. I had made flies many times before, even
when I was a kid..my cousin Larry and I made many flies for our
dads ..we actually thought they would use them LOL...they were
FAR from usuable but they appreciated the effort we took to make
flies for them...we had fun doing it too..ANYway.. I wrapped that
line around that feather and tied it off and cut off the ends.. I looked
at David..said "here, use this I made you a fly" He LAUGHED
at it when I handed it to him..he says "thats pitiful lookin- aint gonna
catch any fish with that"..and handed it back to me. laughing at this
fly.. I will admit it did look sad lol..I said "ok..I'll get my pole and use
it then I bet I catch a fish"..He says "YA SURE" and continues his
fishing.. (men of little faith) hehehe...ya you KNOW what is coming
next dont ya??? :-D I rigged up my line and the fishing began...:-D
I cast out.. and my light line sat there..and I jerked it a bit..to keep it
moving..until it got to shore ..I cast out again..did the same thing..
reeled it all the way back in,in that jerky way..David looks at me and
says "see? told you that stupid looking fly wouldnt work"..laughed
and went back to his way of fishing.. I cast out again..and started my
little jerks and POW ! i got a nice hit...the fish jumped out of the water
made a big splash..and I misjudged and pulled the fly right out of its
mouth.. lol..Ya..Davids mouth dropped open..he says.." it wasnt
after YOUR fly.." and pretended he wasnt watching me...and started
to fish again.. I could see him watching ...I cast out.. to where I had
been casting..and started the little jerky motions again..That fish
hit my line so hard pulled my pole right out of my hand and good
thing i was that fast or my pole would have gone..lol... I reeled that
fish in..it was a beauty.I tossed it up on the riverbank , and smiled,
.David stood there..says "give me that fly" I said "make your own,
I did ..I offered it to you once" this whole time Im grinning ear to ear
as he takes that fish off my line.says, wasnt this fly the fish was after
anyway, it just got in the way" This whole time Im smiling I said to
him" I told you, you can use it ..you'll catch a fish I'm tellin you"
I took my line and cut the fly off and handed it to him.."here " as I
handed it to him "NOW, next time I offer you a fly..take it, I know
how to fish I told you that.." Men of little faith....he used that sorry
looking fly all day..and he caught about 5 or so really big trout...
nice ones... He had a blast.. He still talks about that fly I bet.. He
put it in his fly box when he got home.. I had given him my dads...
full of his flys a long time ago.. I picked up the box after he set it
down...when I opened that box, I lifted a panel I didnt know was in
there..and under there were those flys I had made for my dad all
those years ago, still there, he kept every one of them, i really
had to smile..sure brought back some good memories.. I showed
those flys to David..told him I made those when I was 12 years old..
He believed me -- was about time he did hey? I tole ya.. I KNOWS
hows ta fish LOL..my Daddy taught me.. lol..
Well another little fishing story for you.. hope you like it.. This is true
as well.. I have quite a few fishing story's as I sure have done alot
of it.. I kinda miss it...but good memories take me back..like that
quote that I like so well..
"In memory you can return again,
to the nicest place you have ever been"
that is so true if we didnt have the good memories how sad it would be.
we need all we the good ones we can get, so we dont remember
the Bad ones.. :-)
Well I am all squeaky clean as Raelynn was here today..she informed
me she prefers Raelynn to Rae...so I will try to call her that ...
I saved my lunch for her to see how pathetic it looked ..was chicken
and of course peas and CARROTSSSS lol. the chicken was horrible
looking and Dutch tried to bury it..he even knocked it off the table lol..
So I am gonna hit publish and go and have a cookie or 2 , I have some
good sugar cookies from the bakery ..I know it will make this chair
shrink ..ahhh so what ...nothin like some good cookies yes???
:-) nitey nite...
Y'all have a good one now Y'hear? LUV ya..& thanks...
Always, Lois****
May God Bless you today,

My niece is a 1st year student at the CIA. She displays her skills at family events, unless she has to work. Every family should have a culinary student in their midst.
I enjoyed your fish story, Lois. It's getting near to the season where we catch cod at night off the beach at high tide.
