~Sunset Lake ~

That's me in 1992. I was 17 then, those are my 2 cousins,
on the left with the scarf on her head is Kathleen, shes 2
years younger than me. In the front of the boat, is her sister,
MaryEllen, but we just called her Mary. Shes a red head with
freckles all over her nose and she was always laughing..you
can see the look on her face.. These 2 were of my buddies..
We hung out at all the family stuff- why we didn't mind going
to them. They are 2 of the daughters of my mother's brother,
my Uncle Gordon and his wife, my Aunt Gladys. Mary and
her sister Anne, are red heads, There are 5 kids , the 2
boys, Pat and John werent, they got it from my Aunt who
was Irish I think, her maiden name was McDonald.. She was
a teacher, and only did that when I was in school as only a
temporary teacher.. I had her for French..it was SO hard, not
the class, but to have your Aunt be the teacher, many times
I had to ask questions about things and I would forget and
say "Aunt Gladys" instead of Mrs.Wales.. .I would get SO
embarrassed .. I asked her once when we were on an outing
what should I do? She just laughed and said, "you can call
me anything, Dear, I'm your Aunt, before I'm your teacher".
That suited me just fine.. So that's what I used after that. :-)
That photo was taken at Sunset Lake, a beautiful one..good
fishing, and very quiet..not a lot of racing boats, it wasn't long
enough.. there was a great public beach too.. We had all
gone to see my mothers brother, my Uncle Telfer and Aunt
Sylvia, and their 2 sons, Ronnie and Gary. They had rented
a cottage for 3 weeks at the east end of the lake, where most
of the summer rentals were. The cottage of my parents was
farther down to the left and on that far north shore. My Uncle
and cousins loved to fish and the boys were the same age
as us just about, they were from Pennsylvania, and came up
to visit with my Grandma and the rest of the family.. I know
they were wore out with all the doings every day with some
one inviting them or going by there.

That is a photo of my parents cottage..well kinda..but you can
see how far back from the water..The man holding the fish is
my first husband Danny, he had gone fishing and those are
the nice fish he caught. I don't know or remember what kind,
I cant tell to me they look like bass, I don't know.. You can see
the long dock, and then out farther in the water was a raft, that
we could swim out to and jump off, it had a ladder to climb up
on it.. My dad made the dock there and the raft. he used old
oil barrels..metal ones and put a flat top on it.. worked good..
was fun to get on it and be on opposite corners.. One would
jump up and down to get it to rocking and then the other .. it
would get to going pretty good and was hard to stay on..but
was fun.. That lake gave us a lot of wonderful times.. Summer
or winter. In the winter they ice fished and you can see to the
right how there are no steps on that side..that's so they can use
that side to pull the boat out in the winter, the dock and raft
come out too. Then in the winter he would drive down on to the
lake with his plow and clear a place for us to skate ! was a lot
of fun..
Just about where that photo of Danny ends, where I am standing
are 2 huge wheels like off a farm tractor or something.. In the
winter my dad brought the raft in..flipped it over onto this dock,
hooked it up to the jeep, and on the left of the cottage was enough
room for my dad to drive through and he would pull the dock up
there for the winter. The winter partys were just as grand.. The
cottage was at one time a year round one but my parents mainly
used it during the summer and only went out there in the winter
when they wanted to plan skating and a nice get together..That
cottage had 3 bedrooms in it.. was really a nice one..Those 3
windows are the dining room so you can imagine the view as
you were eating.. I do have some old 8 mm. film that are of a
few of the family winter gatherings..of my uncles skating and
my dad driving the jeep all over.. I wish I could get the photos
off of them.. I did have the 8 mm film put on VCR tape..but
now I want to have it put on to cd I think be safer..but I don't
know who would want these old tapes anyway.. But would be
great to get the photos.. The photo of the lake I got off the web
it is of Sunset Lake, and its from a website that rents out some
cottages all year long. Sunset Lake Cabins, MI..They are really
nice and its one of the best fishing AND one of the most
beautiful lakes in the UP of Michigan..Trust me.. :-)
Well as promised there is a photo of me, my usual Sunday one.
I have run out of clothes that I havent worn for a photo..well no,
ones that I would WANT to wear for a photo..so..I dunno NOW,
what to do :-) I DONT need suggestions on what to do unless it
is to suggest a good store to buy some tho ;-D I couldn't find
a top today and had to settle for that one, its ok..but well its not
one of my favorites.. You see the boys head there..He was
looking at me with this look, 'Im gonna be in this photo' smirk on
his face .. LB, is right over on the chair, one of his best favorite
spots..he's such a Garfield.. he has an attitude but totally opposite
of what Dutch has.. Dutch will bite and slap at ya if you don't pay
him attention, and if you wake him? well be prepared to pull your
hand back right away, hes got sharp teeth.. :-) I took 2 photos..
the other I will put on here one day this week..well I took 3, so,
I know..I am so bad with a camera, I HAVE to take more than one,
just in case its NOT good..and well you KNOW every single
photo of me is absolutely GORGEOUS ! you knew I was gonna
say that :-) how can I delete them? I do have it in a bigger size,
so if you want it. let me know.. :-)

It was 97 degrees here today,, its HOT...

In the meantime.. Im gonna go eat, TRY to watch some TV and
say "Nitey Nite" :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya, and thanks.. :-)
Always, Lois ****

God Bless you is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend";
I pray the Lord will keep you safe
until I write again..
