~I Think Sometimes ~ :-)
I was thinking today, I do that sometimes you know..:-) But
I was, of ALL places, while on the potty! As I sat there, I reached
back like I always do, to grab the armrests..preparing to
lift and pull myself back into my chair. . . Before I did, I thought
about just how much strength it really takes to do that.. I have
to LIFT UP ..and PULL BACKWARDS.. I know if I was not as
strong as I am, how would I do it.. Who would do it for me? If
that time ever came that I was too weak to do that I would be
in serious trouble.. Its hard enough to just pull backwards..but
to have your clothes go with you, whether its a skirt or pants..
you have to lift UP, or your gonna drag your pants off or pull
your skirt down..if you have a dress on..well its gonna choke
you as it will pull up at the neck . .. So the lifting part you almost
have to do besides pull your self back at the same time..You
need arm as well as upper body strength...
My cushion cover, well I have 2.. the one that came with my new
cushion is not nylon..more of a brushed cotton..and sticky..what
I mean is other material sticks to it.. This other cover I have that
I kept is nylon and I slide on it very easily.. when I have a silk skirt
I kept is nylon and I slide on it very easily.. when I have a silk skirt
on ..well if I run into Something going to fast I almost can slide
right out of this chair its so slippery..but that sure makes it easier
to transfer. I honestly dread the time that I couldn't do my own
transfers.. I think if I used my power chair I would lose the strength
I have.. doesn't take any strength to move a joy stick around.. I
think Ive only used my new one..twice.. I don't very often.. I can
control my manual better..that's why I like it better...
When Ive used my power chair..and Im in the kitchen cooking or
what ever.. I don't have the instant movement.. First I have to FIND
the joystick..then turn it on.. THEN move it.. I never sit around with
it on.. I found out the hard way about that.. I was at the sink..and I
dropped something..and I accidentally bumped the joy stick to go
forward..the chair lurched and I got stuck UNDER the sink..the joy
stick broke off and I had to find a knife to wedge under so I could
move the joystick as it was bent in a forward position.. I was in a
really bad spot! and the worst was the sink came chest high right
under my chin..so I was pushed back too and almost choking.. I
managed to get the chair in reverse and I got OUT of it.. and I did
not use it again in the kitchen.. You don't have the INSTANT move
ment like you do in a manual.. I can hit that counter or what ever
is close and instantly my manual chair moves...THAT has saved
me many times..from burns..even dropping knives on my self..If
I had been in my power chair..I would have been burnt and stabbed
cut or Lord knows what.. I know they all would HURT and that I
DONT need.
A power chair, for me is more for outside..well it would help me now
in here with this carpet.. but I cant lose this strength and I have to keep
that up.. If my knight never shows up...well I will have to make sure I
can keep doing these transfers myself wont I, with no one here to
help me.. To go outside the power chair would be alot better to use.
I should put a snow plow on it and I bet I could plow my own self
out..we are sposta get more snow..of course AFTER it rains..No
wonder so many around here are getting sick..even Chris said she
wasnt feeling good yesterday and was anxious to get all her meals
delivered so she could go home..Shes a nice girl..I say girl and she
said she is having her 47th birthday next week..she doesnt look over
30.. shes a nice nice person..and does a good job..delivers late..but
thats not her fault.. she does the best she can and thats all any of us
can do...
Theresa was due today and I had to call her and ask if we could
re schedule it for another day.. I woke up with a bad sore throat..that
over the course of today has gotten worse and worse. Ive been
coughing and just feel blah.. I did get up VERY early today..2:30..I
did take a desk rest twice today I had to I was just not feeling the
greatest.. but after about 20 minutes I felt better..didn't last a big long
time but it helped... The best help for me right now is some tea and
some more of that good pumpkin bread.. Penny sure did good on
that.. I think I will ask her to make some more saffron bread.. I love
that stuff ..but it is SO expensive..just a few grams of it is over 15.00
its said to be the most expensive spice there is.. but to me its worth
what ever its so good.. I don't have any now so the pumpkin bread
will be great..all warm with some good REAL butter all melty all over
it..a nice cup of steaming hot tea.. yes..that will make me feel Better,
it did last nite.. I don't remember much afterwards. Life is good.
"Nitey Nite" :-)
Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya..and thanks :-)
ALways, Lois ****

Hi Lois
Sure hope your arms stay strong Lois, it take a lot of strength to left yourself like that...most people can't even do it.
We would have to do a lot of workout, and build up ours arms, shoulders, wrists and hands...
It hard anymore to walk a long ways for me now.
I use Mucinex DM, you can get it at Wal Mart... It's real good... about 12 dollars for 20 pills.
I never thought about the power chair causing problem like that.
So glad you brought that problem up...it can save other from being burned or cut or something worst.
Becky doesn't cook at all, she doesn't have the balance.
God bless you Lois
