~Now We Flood?~

First we get snow, butt deep to a giraffe, now, we are under a
FLOOD warning.. And whats bad about that is, I live 2 blocks from
one of the rivers here.. The corner outside across the street, house
side, the drain there is all backed up..that's why the huge splashes
by the cars as they go by.. I wish that stinkin screen wasn't in that
window,, I will figure a way to get it out.. Its not the NEW window
screen, that one is up...I asked Kenny, "would you put the window
screen up". he looked at me and raised the one on the new one,,
not the one that was already there! THATS the culprit... It rained
so hard last nite, just poured.. thunder, lightening..and we were
under TORNADO warnings.. In January...now... something is really
upsetting the weather cart I think... Elkhart, where my sister lives,
I saw on the news last nite got hit really hard.. All this rain..then the
2 foot of snow we had..all these rivers, and drains are over flowing.
You can barely see the cars for the water splashing..
I told the story of how bad Houston was for flooding when the rains
would come..going and getting a boat and almost having to ride
home in it ! So many cars think they can go thru a flooded road..
I wont even try.. My ex, Willie and I, lived in Pasadena, TX ..off
Red Bluff Road, nice housing area ..By the time we got to our
street we had water up to the headlights in our pick up.. the water
inside the cab of the truck was up to my ankles.. Willie slowly and
steadily kept going.. It had hit us so fast, if we had stopped we
probly wouldn't have been able to go on..

The carburetor sat on top of the motor, so as long as Willie kept
sort of steady "plowing" through that water, it kept it away from
that.. we turned the corner to our house, and it was high and dry.
By the time we got to it..we gradually got to less deeper water..
I would have panicked had something like that caught me if I
was alone.. Willie said.."just hold on..we're gonna ride this out,
slow and easy, pick your feet up".. I know I had to look totally
scared.. my fingers were embedded in the dashboard.. and I
had my feet up as high as I could get them.. He did good, I
was glad my house was dry... lots got damage all around us..

That is the mirror above my couch..don't look that the doiley on it-
its crooked.. I noticed when I looked at this photo to fix it to be able
to put here..look at my door.. Now..is THAT pathetic? I cant believe
I have left that there like that looking so ICKKY!.. and takes this
looking at this photo..that's to show that mirror, and I notice that
door..Well.. it will be fixed.. The mirror..that's a major biggie..Its so
BLAH, its just hanging there..looks so dull.. I have that swag that
was over on the wall above the chair and I have been trying to
think of a way to get it on it.. I don't think at the top...but at the very
bottom of it.. I had thought about suction cups..and suspend it from
the mirror itself..its not that heavy..just gold tin and some silk flowers.
I know it would look nice there I had Penny hold it up underneath..
That mirror makes me nervous to mess with.. Donnie put it up, and
Its stayed up there..but to even watch Penny wash it off makes me
nervous.. When that mirror was hanging in my moms dining room it
was hung differently..with sort of U shaped things that the mirror slid
into..just seemed more secure to me.. If that thing dropped..well..Ive
had it since 1990 and I know..well its hanging on the wall in the photo
below it was my Junior prom, 1962...the dress was a pale blue chiffon.
If that photo would have been in color would have been so pretty with
the yellow daffodils.. But that is the same mirror..I was GORGEOUS
then too :-)
The rain finally stopped and the water in the road has gone down,
I doubt we need to worry..but then as unpredictable as the weather
is in the winter, theres no telling what will happen... I know what is
going to happen next for me though..and that's to roll this chair
over into my bedroom and watch some TV.. I did sleep late today
and I have to say I was really surprised to see that I slept till 8.. I
am tired..but mostly I think its the fact I need to just get out of this
chair.. and that's where this GORGEOUS WEEBLE is headed,
"Nitey Nite"..:-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and THANKS!!! :-)
Always, Lois ****

God Bless you, is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend";
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again.....

    Hi, Honey,
    You STILL ARE GORGEOUS!!!
Technique for deep water - (But only for non-auto transmission!) In the lowest gear you've got, slip the clutch so the engine revs stay high to keep water out of the exhaust system, and move very slow and steady forwards, so's you don't make a bow-wave to flood the ignition. I know it works! I found out a few years back when my better half map-read us across the North York Moors and we came to a spot where the road ran along the bed of a small river for a couple of hundred yards!! The water came up to the bottom shut lines of the doors.
Only trouble with deep water is that it can wreck the catalytic converter in the exhaust system - the platinum catalyst is on a ceramic substrate that breaks up with cold shock.
    Hey, that's a bit technical, ain't it?
    Take care, honey, L.O.L. & G.B.H. from

    Hi Mary,
Yes, I am too..Penny checked my basement and its back to 80% humidity again..which means damp ..even with the furnace..Joys of Michigan :-) Ive not kept in touch with anyone I went to school with.. be nice to tho. :-)

    Hiya Raife,
we were a chevy pick up..automatic, with big tires so we sat up a bit higher too.. Houston is bad for flooding even though they have the canals there... Well you just stay high and dry..you get more rain than we do.. :-)

    Good to hear from you..
    ALways, Lois ****
