~My Stumps DO Get Cold~
I have been asked if I wear any sort of stocking or warmers
on my stumps..and do they get cold... I notice sometimes,
like just the other morning, I was going into the bathroom and
it was chilly in here.. The registers blow out cool air Before they
do the warm..its so ironic that they do but..I guess the air in the
lines or what ever its called cools down and that has to blow
out first..just makes it colder it seems.. to go into the bath
room I have to go past a wall register..the old kind.. big square
thing and the air really pumps out of it..so much so that it makes
my shower curtain blow..
Well anyway, as I rolled past it..I felt the coolness on my stumps,
and I feel my invisible feet constantly and my legs..I noticed and
even said to my self.."my feet are cold".. Before.. when I had them,
when my feet got really cold I was cold all over and seemed to take
forever for them to warm up... But my stumps do get cold..the
whole thing.. mostly I feel the cold on the ends.. If I move my hand
over one I can feel its colder at the very end more than the rest of it.
I havent really thought about wearing any kind of stocking, like I
know they have. Ive seen them. Usually put on before you put on a
prosthetic.. My friend BB that was a bk, AK.. I watched when he
went to get his new leg, and to try it out.. He did really good with
it..But he was young and very strong...He had a white knit type
sock that he put on first.. seemed very light weight..then slipped
his new leg on.. I guess that helps so as not to damage the stump
and more cushion or maybe for sweating.. I don't honestly know
why they wear them..but I guess its like shoes..you wear socks,
so..same theory I guess.. :-) sounds logical to me
Well I did ask google about it..and there is a place called Heller. I
was amazed at all the kinds there.. I have been told by some
that by wrapping my stumps keeping them more or less bound..
that they would not have as many phantoms and that it does make
them easier to put up with.. Not that its really hard..but I know some
times..they ache so bad and just hurt and then of course how hard
it is to even really move and if wrapping them would help, well I
am for that for sure!.. although .. they WOULD have to match..and
I DID notice that they have them in lots of colors..so I would.. :-)
Well this GORGEOUS WEEBLE has to match...:-) I have to
Well this GORGEOUS WEEBLE has to match...:-) I have to
always LOOK good..:-)
Big Daddy Ken came by last nite- FINALLY..Chris HAD to have that
check 2 weeks ago and calls me about it..wanting..and then Dad
has to come and get it. He didn't stay long and of course we had
to talk about the snow.. He said there are some parts of town still
not cleared out.. He asked If I needed any thing more done.. I did
tell him about the plastic put up on the porch sure would be nice,
but he didn't offer to do it.. I bet I will get that put up probly next
July..and If that's the only time I can..well.. I will let it be put up
then..just so it helps with this heat bill.. I don't worry about summer,
well I do but staying cool.. I try to keep one temperature all the
time..Ken was nice and commented how friendly the boys were
to him..Dutch kept pestering him..as he does everyone.. I asked
him if he had a dog..he said "yes a terrier" so that explains it.. I
was beginning to worry about the boy.. But he got the check so
my rent is paid to feb. 1st..good good good... I like the word PAID.
Wish ALL my bills said that...
Well time for me to say my famous words and head in and watch
some TV.. Mine is really acting up lately not acting good..I cant
complain though I got it for free and its lasted since I got it at the
HellHome from Dawn that was 6 years ago.. so no complaints.
As little as I really see of it.. I like it for the sound too.. Its so quiet
As little as I really see of it.. I like it for the sound too.. Its so quiet
in here..just the sound of me clicking on the keyboard or the
sound of the mouse.. Well I do talk to the boys once in awhile.
They don't answer me in English though ..and I just cannot get
the hang of kittyjibberish.. LB does say Mom though..Many have
heard him... Hes calling me now, telling me its TV and snuggle
time..im ready... "Nitey Nite". :-)
Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya..and THANKS! :-)
Always, Lois ****
God Bless you, is my prayer today,
I'm so honored to call you "friend";
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again.....

Hi, Honey,
On a technicality, When putting on a leg, a sock is often fitted first and the end led out through the sealing cap. It is then pulled through to draw the stump in to a good, air-tight fit and the sealing cap refitted - there is a clip of Jill Drake doing just that. I've seen it said that a silicone liner is better for stump health and comfort than a suction fit - but I speak as a mere "normi" without experience of these things.
Both the lovely amp ladies that I am fortunate and priveleged enough to know are unable to wear prosthetics.
Certainly, I would think that keeping those pretty stumps warm would help to reduce phantoms.
Take care, Gorgeous Weeble!! ;o)

Dearest honeyhon!
About wearing socks, there is two things to it!
First: You prolly shud feel more comfortable and warmer in your stumps. And your stumpss is an importatnt part of you, and shud be as comfortable as possible. (So "sock" them for your own sake).
Secondly: You know i think you would be best without any clothing at all, but i can fully understand how uncomfortable that would be... Sitting in your chair with bare skin... ICKY... I think it is better sitting as you mostly do, with your stumps covered by a skirt. This give you the possibility to move them around and excercize without any fabric to be in the way, and if anyone are lucky enough to see that................
Hmm, here you got both the medical and the devotee point of view, of your unique little problem. If i was lucky to be near you i would give you a very warming massage, or place my weary head in your lap. I bet the warm up problems would disappear in a moment, cause i think my heart (as it feels now when i write) would heat up the most frosen part of antarktis, and all the ice in McDonalds icemachines in a second. You know what love and symphaty can do....
I have the usual problems getting close to the computer, and you my dear!
It is "do that" and "do this" or "we got to meet" and "get ready cause they are here soon" all the time... Life is hectic, but sometimes short moments like this when i am alone, i open my files marked you know what, and drown in the most beautiful sights i have in this life of mine. Sights i NEVER can get enough of, and prolly never will get to much of either. Until the lucky day i finally is near and in reality can lay my hands on the most wonderful things in life. And to bury my nose in the wonder described above. Well dreams today, but who knows???
Take care of your cold stumps, and feel my kisses from a distance!
Your own

Hiya Raife,
I was going to get a pros when I was a rak..but then changed my mind and never even considered getting one for my left with all the trouble Ive had with it.. A chair works ok..frustrating at times..but.. I do think perhaps a nice thin sock might feel good tho...
Hiya Rob,
Your notes here are so very nice.. I hope you are feeling ok..that all is well there. Its always such a nice feeling to know I am cared for..and I thank you for that.. :-)
I hope y'all have a great saturday..its cold here and Rain today! go figure..Joys of a Michigan winter :-)..
Love ya's...

Hey Gorgeous,
Well - interesting discussion about your cold legs. I suppose a sock of some kind would help. But of course it has to match. Butt truthfully, I like your legs bare and natural! Of course, if it'll help you be more comfortable, please use them - just not while I'm watching (wink).
Was great to catch you for a few mins yesterday. Hope we can do it again soon.
Bare Hugs and Kisses.
