~Everyone Needs A Kit~

A lot less stress today and I have been checking on
a cell phone.. One of those buy your minutes kind. I
don't need one other than for a backup...I probly
wont ever use it really.. but just in case.. I have re
stocked my batteries too.. If I hadnt had any of
these for my radio it would have really been boring
in here, but I made sure I have a battery one.. I
have at least 3 flashlights and if they fail. I have
candles everywhere. We get some severe crap in
the summer, well, we did in Three Rivers and I'm
on the same side of the street.. so I will get it all.
I get the cell and I will be prepared.. Only thing I
still have yet to do is get copies of my house keys.
I want Donnie to have one of course, but Penny as
well.. She should have her own, just in case I cant
get up one morning to unlock the door.. She can
still get in... So that's the only thing left in my
emergency kit I need, everyone should have one.
Its a good thing :-)

I was up to 3 sweaters, my shawl and my mink cape
over my legs and I was COLD.. I think what bothered
me the most was breathing the cold air.. It chilled
me to the bone.. I sat and watched TV last nite and
while I was sitting there I was so deeply chilled that
even my invisible feet were freezing.. Which, when
I had feet, when they got really cold I was just COLD
all over... It took me quite a while to warm up totally,
and yet even today my stumps are very chilled...

Laima, my caseworker said that if the power wasn't
back by 5 they were prepared to move me to a hotel
in Sturgis or Coldwater. That's nice to know that they
are looking out for me.. I feel safer.. Donnie was going
to bring his generator over but that thing is so huge!,
If I really needed it he would have. I'm glad the boy
didn't have to lift that thing, even with John to help,
its a lot of lifting.. but I know Donnie said that it would
run his whole house if need be. I maybe should consider
getting one for a backup, like getting a cell phone for
back up... Might be worth checking into...

Our snow is still out there and is melting in spots. Its
kinda cool. I knew yesterday when I saw how the
brances of the pine were touching the ground that it
was a VERY heavy snow.. Good kind for making snow
men, but not for trees and power lines.. There is a
big branch out there that broke off the pine too.. I'm
glad no more broke.. but that's probly what happened
yesterday, and so many towns around without.. One
whole town said they were just moving everyone out
that needed it as the power wouldn't be on till Tomorrow!
That's not good.. Glad we got ours back !

I listened to the Sturgis oldies radio station.. ALL day,
I waited for the hour and half hour to see if they
said anything.. give numbers to call or what ever.. There
wasn't that first mention of the outage.. That sure was
NOT good ! I would have thought they would have let
us know how else would we find out anything? Like me,
my battery radio was my only contact. At least every
hour to keep us updated.. Maybe next time...

My sis phoned, apparently Laima called her twice! She
wasn't home she and Stan had gone somewhere so she
didn't get the message till later when power was back
by then.. She was worried though too, till she talked to
me. Shirley has a sister Deidre in Florida that is having
a very rough time job wise too... Its everywhere, no
state or country is spared in this dilemma of no jobs.
Sure worries me......

Well I need some lunch, COA's was awful.. a piece of
ickky looking fish that was floating in grease.. Not
very appetizing at all.. I will fix something else . what,
I don't know YET. Nice to have HOT food. :-) Time
to put my GORGEOUS WEEBLE "g'day, g'day" and
find some lunch... :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and THANKS!
Always, Lois ****

"God Bless You" is my prayer today,
I'm honored to call you "friend".
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again...

    Hello Lois
Yes cell phone are good to have in time of need for sure...
For me my family or friends and get a hold of me if something come up that I need to know about right away...It has save me so much in times and trips...Also it has save me having to walk to a phone for help in the heavy rain...One times someone try to get in my Van, while I was in it, I was able to lock the doors... I call the police for help...
God bless you Lois and keep you safe my friend.
    Mary

    Hi, Honey,
Can you get the wind-up radios and flashlights over there? Wind for one minute to get 30 minutes light or radio. If you can, it might be an idea for your emergency kit. I've seen a wind-up flashlight with a charger plug to charge the cellphone - now that would be really handy!!
Hope you have a nive, knitted bobble hat for next power outage!! Most of the heat loss from the body is via the head, so it's worth keeping it warm.
    Take care, honey,
    Luv Ya
    Raife

I take meals on wheels and add a salad-dressing marinade to the meat or fish and marjarine to the veggies and pasta - the meal is good then.
