Amputee life before and after...

~Sounds~

I was sitting at my favorite spot by the back door
when I heard a bang, my first thought of course was
a gun, but it wasn't, was a firecracker. I had forgotten
its the 4th of July soon. From what I'm hearing there
will be no fireworks then but there will be during the
magic week. That's like in Three Rivers, I didn't know
or realize that there were none on the 4th there either.
The ones I saw were from the River Festival.. :-) Well
they were fireworks, that's the main thing and these
small towns have some of the best even compared to
the bigger cities, no matter when they have them...

When I was married to my last husband, David, the
4th was a biggie, he and his brother Mark, would save
all year that they both contributed to every so often,
then come time to buy them they had the funds. They
were like little kids in a candy shop when it came to
buying fireworks and some were really great. One he
got was a bomb almost and I know it was good at
making HOLES ! :-) But we had lots of good times
with his brother and 2 sisters, the 4th was a big day,
first at his mom's then back at our place where we
and David's sister Laura and her family lived. It was
a really nice condo I called it.. It had a huge back yard
and past that were the rail road tracks and then a field.
Perfect for fireworks.. :-)

There were us 8 adults and there were 6 kids. We would
line up lawn chairs out back and David and Mark and their
nephew Stevie would take turns lighting them. The kids
loved it, well so did we, it was fun. A few close calls but
no accidents.. One of the bottle rockets fell over and came
directly at us all sitting there like ducks in a row, wanna
see a bunch of people move fast, and as each adult stood
up and ran they grabbed a kid and ran ! We all did that on
rainy days too .. We didn't have any kids, but one rainy
picnic when that happened I grabbed one of Jen's girls
David grabbed her boy, when we got back to the car,
here's Jen standing out there in the rain wondering who
grabbed her kids ! :-) Making sure someone had them ! We
usually yell at who grabbed who.. but that day it was such
a quick storm we just grabbed and yelled... :-) Poor Jen
she was the only one that got WET ! :-)

Amazing at the nice memories that just a sound will bring
back to you. Specially when they are good ones and I can
remember many nice 4ths, specially on the river, watching
the parade of decorated boats go up and down it.. Some
went all out to decorate their pontoon, In fact Mark's
wife and Jen, and I had considered decorating up Jims
pontoon and joining them but we never did. We should
have it probly would have been fun.. :-)

Well, my next fun is to close this, post it and get some
lunch for this GORGEOUS WEEBLE :-) But, you know
I shall return :-) I KNOW you shall be patiently waiting,
are you smiling? :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? Love ya and Thanks!

~Love~

I got the cutest joke in email that I had to smile.
I quote "Christians have only one wife, its called
Monotony"... I believe the word is monogamous or
something like that.. Monotony means BORING. Or
the same thing over and over again... Which I have
to say, my parents celebrated 56 years and I have
to add, were in love with each other as much as they
were when they got married. They showed it daily
to each other, which when you love someone you
should.. It should be so easy to look at that person
and say "I love you". All the times I went home I
saw that in them.. Not one day went by that they
didn't tell each other "I love you". and sometimes
more than once.
Mom would walk past my dad to get to her side of
the table where they sat and played solitaire, when
she did she would lovingly pat him on the shoulder
or run her hand across them, sometimes leaning over
to kiss him on the cheek. He did the same to her.
I grew up with this shown to me and It was nice to see
that at 80 years old their love never died. In fact I
think once my sister and I moved away, me to PA and
her to Hawaii, they became even closer.

Many times she would go fishing with him and sit in the
car or on a picnic table and wait for him, when he got
back she would have a little snack and always a thermos
of coffee for them. I still have their picnic basket. She
kept it packed, In fact I havent even emptied it.. All is
still in it.. From the cups to silverware, even a small bottle
with tooth picks :-) It was a well prepared basket. :-)
Every ride they took, no matter how long it was they had
a snack and usually at some of the most beautiful places,
they would talk and enjoy the day. Whomever visited
them, they would take on a ride with the basket along.

I sometimes wish I had found a love like that, that I
could have spent my whole lifetime in love with them,
enjoying every day, I think that's why once my Dad
was gone, Mom had such a hard time to adjust, and
only NOW being alone so much I KNOW just how
hard it was for her, had to have been a million times
harder to be with out the love of her life.

Love is good for you no matter who you get it from
and the more people that love you the better you
feel..at least I do.. My boy came over last night and
hes miserable being alone, he hates sleeping alone,
I guess me, I'm used to it now after almost 10 years,
but then again, If my knight in shining Armour showed
up, well.. I just might climb on that horse with him and
ride off into the sunset :-) So.. maybe the true love of
my life is still out there, who knows ? :-) I will wait,
he may have a bad sense of direction, or the horse
does :-)

Lunch time and Penny is making us some brats. There
is a store by here that has over 20 different kind.
And all homemade ! AND, ALL GOOD !! :-) I havent
tried them all but, well go look, Sand Lake Party Store,
here in Nottawa. great little store :-) on a beautiful
lake too.. :-) So post time for this HUNGRY GORGEOUS
WEEBLE... But.. "I'll be back ! " :-) I KNOW your glad! :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and thanks!

~Good Weekend ~

I havent done one thing all week end but just SIT.
Well I always do that, but Ive not done much else.
Just relaxed, watched TV, and I havent even been
online that much. Ive talked to a few friends when
they phoned, but other than looking out the window
and enjoying the songs on the radio Ive not done
anything. I feel better, not so stressed. But I have
decided that I will call Deborah and find out if I
can go to the Dr here. I'm hoping I can. I have a
few issues I need to have checked out and I guess
its time to do it. I know, its always something, but
when the flag signs turn to red, its time to act, and
that's what I have to do..but its been a good week
end..quiet and relaxing.. :-)

I showed Joyce her picture, she laughed and told
me the helper is their son. They use the front end
loader to put the shingles up there. Joe has to be
in his 70's at least.. so to be working up there on
that hot roof cant be easy.. I know they are using
a nail gun as I recognize the sound from when I
worked at the export crating companies in Houston.
Willie ran the shop and that's what they used, of
course more powerful than the one Joe has out
there.

When Willie and I got out of the motel business he
went to work at Imperial Crating, for Sam. I went
to work there as well as Sam's assistant and to
learn marketing. Willie was in charge of the carpenter
shop. They used the big staple guns. I had gone into the
break room for a coffee when suddenly the door opens
and Willie flies in and said to call 911, one of his guys
had stapled his fingers to a box. I went out there, well
AFTER I called 911 of course to look. What a site.

The guy looked away for just a second and as powerful
as those guns are, you cannot take your eyes off of
them.. he got all of his fingers, missed the thumb. This
poor guy was about in tears.. They used these special
hammers out there too, called a rig axe. One side of
the head is like a hatchet, the other looks to me like
a meat tenderizer. Well if you miss and hit your finger
that's just about what it does to a finger. Ive seen
that too. These guys could, in ONE swing, drive those
nails sometimes all the way in, so imagine hitting a
finger what it does... not pretty... :-)

Speaking of tenderizer, I have a steak out in my fridge.
:-) I know its tender ! :-) They were on sale and Ive
not had one in a while, so I thought might be a nice
Sunday dinner. with some onions and maybe a baked
potato.. We got, PENNY got, some olive oil and I will
fry it in that. SO.. its time for this GORGEOUS
WEEBLE to sign off for today, but.."I'll be back!"

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and Thanks!

~Roofers~

Ive written quite a few times about each of my cats
having girl friends. LB's is MeowMeow and he drags
her everywhere. He takes her to the litter box, to
his food dish, and even to the plate that I give them
their treats on in the livingroom. Ive woke up with
all 3 of them up on the bed with me.. And this stuffed
cat, I warn everyone NOT to pick it up except by the
very tip of its tail :-) She is gradually falling apart.
All around her neck is torn and I guess Mom will have
to put on some rubber gloves and try to repair this
cat. If I don't, when LittleBoy cant find her, he howls.
He will roam thru here Meowing loud as he can, I tell him
where she is and he goes and looks, Ive watched him.
Then he drags her around to where I guess he figures
she needs to go...I was sitting in the doorway this morning,
nice cool day out, I was glad, I enjoy the door open, when I
turned to come into the living room there all 3 laid in the sun
shine.I had to smile and of course take a photo. LB had to
bring his friend into the sun too. Hes a very lovey cat, well
unless the kid messes with him and makes him mad.
I saw Joyce and Carl and someone else out by the garage
yesterday and Carl had said he had to do the roof on it.
They started after the sun went down past the trees and
I know I saw them out there at 7am. when I was sitting there.
By 10:30 they were done. I took the photo of Joyce standing
there, I thought that was cute, I'm gonna give it to her and
tell her she did a good supervising :-) The guys did a good job,
the roof looks great.
Theres the update on those plants out there in the yard by
the driveway too, you can see it.. I have NO idea what it is,
but I am pretty sure the whole end of it, all those things
sticking out will bloom and it will be covered in white I bet,
flowers. I sent the photos to a friend, they think its a
Yucca, which It may be, but I think its some kind of Lilly
the leaves are thin.. Be fun to figure it out.. I will ask Joyce.
Ive been taking an aspirin a day the past few days.. It does
make me feel better. I was getting concerned about the
chest pains Ive been having and the aspirin is helping. I
have decided on Monday to call HPM and ask Deborah about
this Dr here that I was told about. If I can go to him here
I would prefer that than going all the way back to 3 Rivers.
I KNOW once I go what the next few things will be which
is why I put it off but I think its time, and hopefully Ive
not waited too long. The next few things will be tests, and
I will honestly say THATS the biggie, the tests are what
make you feel even worse than whats wrong with you. I
had a heart cath done in 03. And I had to stay over night.
They had to use my right arm and not my groin to inject
the dye, and for them to do this I have to be given special
stuff so I don't get violently ill from the dye they inject.
Using my arm meant I couldn't so I had to stay bedbound
for 24 hours before they would let me use it. THEN I was
even restricted when I got home and had to have someone
with me. This is what I mean.. Everything is just so much
more complicated now. Joys of amputee life I guess.. But
I do plan to go.. I know when I HAVE just about no choice,
its this stress that's done it I think.. :-)
Time for some lunch, I have some left over Penne Pasta
and sauce Penny made :-) its really good, shes a good cook.
She makes enough for a couple days which helps me, my
arms have been so achey lately that I can hardly use them,
and her cooking for me is great :-) Not counting my thumbs.
I have to hold my coffee cup both hands. I'm pathetic aint I?
Just fallin apart at the seams.. :-) good thing I know how to
sew hey? :-) This GORGEOUS WEEBLE is closing this but..
"I WILL BE BACK ! " :-) this is where ya say YIPPEE! :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and THANKS!!

~Gramma's Swing~

That swing is one that hung on my gramma's porch.
Ive sat on that since I was a tiny tiny girl and would
visit my gramma and grandpa, my moms parents.. My
other grandparents were my grandmother and father.
They were quite different familys but both had swings
on their porches. I had many good times on both and
the sort of things differed I enjoyed whilst sitting on
the swings, differed as much as my grandparents. :-)

The swing at gramma and grandpas was on the front
porch but when you swung on it it went out over the
end of the porch and if you kinda leaned over when
you swung back you could see the ground. The edge
of the house was on a hill which made the swing even
more fun. We werent allowed to be careless because
of that fact when some of my cousins were there too
and we all played together and of course the swing
was right in the middle of our games, it was always
included whether it was a flight to the moon or just
a slow leisurely swing and just enjoying that. It was
well used.

When I would visit gramma and grandpa's for the
week end, most evenings after supper, when grandpa
would go sit in his chair and listen to his radio or some
times the 3 of us would sit out there .. When gramma
and I sat there she would sing sometimes and then
other times she would tell me about when she was
growing up in England and describe life there and tell
me about all the family that they left behind when
she and grandpa and his 2 brothers decided to come
to America. Mostly I remember her gently pushing
the swing and humming her favorite hymns while she
pulled me up close to her side and held me.. It was
such a great time, no one can hug like gramma :-)

After Gramma passed, she died quite a few years after
grandpa, my mom wanted the swing, it had many good
memories for her too, so dad made the I frame for it
and you see it there by the back door of my parents
house where it was until '90 after my mom died and
when I had to move out of it. I gave it to my cousin, to
keep in the family since I couldn't take it with me. I
don't know where it is today, but whomever is swinging
on it, which I'm sure some one is, that they can go to
all the wonderful places I did and enjoy the time with
whomever they are sitting on that swing with ! :-)

Yesterday it was 98 outside, and by the time Chris
turned the central air on I was past a meltdown I think.
I was nauseated and a couple times I had to sit in front
of the freezer. I would go into intense heat spells where
I got so hot I felt I was gonna pass right out. She turned
the air on about 12:30 and that thing ran until past 6 to
cool this place down. I slept all night and I slept good. I
feel a lot better today and boy I sure am glad.. I cannot
take the heat at all. I have to stay one temperature all
the time and since Ive been an amputee I'm even worse,
THAT I notice...

Penny came today and she enjoyed this nice cool place.
Mary your package is on the way, I am trying that new
flat rate shipping, which someone that sends a lot its
a good thing and supposedly cheaper. Well truth be known,
Fed Ex is cheaper than the post office to ship things.
So watch for your box Mary... In the meantime, this
COOL GORGEOUS WEEBLE, I'm still HOT tho :-D...
Says "I'll be back!" :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and thanks!

~Its HOT!!!!~

This will be a short post as Its so hot in here I cant
stand it.. Its 11:30 as I write this and the temp out
side is 98, what it is in here I have NO idea. I have
my ceiling fans on in the kitchen and living room. I
HAVE central air and heat, yes, but I forgot yester
day to have Penny show me how to turn it on before
she left at 12:30.. As yesterday went on it got up to
98 outside and with only fans, I was HOT and I was
having a hard time to breathe, so I opened my freezer
door and I sat there for a while with that cold air
blowing on me and it helped reduce my body heat. I
felt like I was ready to boil over..

As of right now I have made 3 calls, one to Carl, no
answer, one to Joe, a recording, and one to Steve &
Lisa next door, their car is there, but they are not
answering their phone. I was going to ask Steve to
come over and show me how to turn this on. The
MAIN problem is... This GORGEOUS WEEBLE is
TOO SHORT ! I cant see the thermostat. So I
don't want to reach up there blind and turn on the
wrong thing !... If I don't hear from anyone When
Chris comes with my lunch, she came yesterday at
1:30.. I will have her show me or turn it on or some
thing. Its too hot for me..

This heat is amazing that we are having this soon.
Tell me again all this stuff isnt changing.. Up north
in the UP summers never got this hot, every year
the temperature gets higher.. That's why I didn't
like Texas or El Centro, CA.. Lordy talk about HEAT!
No one had cars, trucks or any kind of vehicle with
out air conditioning. And its getting just as bad here.
I opened the door last evening just to get some fresh
air, and it was so muggy I started wheezing I had to
close it there was NO air to breathe for me out
there..

Was strange this morning, I sat in the doorway having
a coffee, well Dutch and I did, and there were NO
BIRDS. not a sound even of any. Was so strange not
to see even 1 , I was getting worried as there wasn't
even a breeze! I halfway expected the sky to turn
black and have a storm ! But after a while the robins
came, then the black birds.. Was an eerie feeling to
not see or hear any, guess they were enjoying the
cool.. They probly stay flying around just to keep cool!
Well with all the lakes here if I was a bird Id be in
that lake ! :-)

I have to get in front of the fan, and post this. I am
today I can HONESTLY say I'm a HOT GORGEOUS
WEEBLE :-) But I will be Back !! :-)

Y'all have a COOL one, Y'hear? love ya and thanks..
Oh, Rebecca is coming next week :-) Update then :-)

~Hot Day~

Suncatchers over the kitchen sink...

Talk about HOT! WOW.. 93 yesterday. I woke this
morning at 6:30 and was already over 80. I opened
the doors for awhile, till Penny, thank GOD!, got here
at 9:30.. late, but better late than NEVER! We all
were very glad to see her.. She does have a very bad
cough that she just cant seem to get rid of. With her
working for the state, she has no health insurance,
so she cant run to the doctor or ER at the drop of a
hat, which makes it hard for her, even though home
aides do have a union. But it does nothing to help them,
only charges them dues, and they have NO choice but
to join it.. Not right but the way things are now, so many
looking for work, those that have jobs are gonna try to
keep them, Penny is one, and if she keeps getting sick
and missing days, it sure doesn't help her paycheck..
We were glad to see her anyway. I had already done
a lot so she really didn't have a lot to do but dust, shop
and do the litter box, I do it but I cant wash it out
etc, which she does at least ONCE a week. But we are
clean again and the boys are happy they have their
treats... :-)

Rebecca didn't come today, she will next week. She
will have more information for me by then. She phoned
and said if I needed anything, in case Penny didn't show
up, she would come and do what I needed done, trash
out etc, not a lot.. which was nice of her.. She again told
me "LOIS, DONT WORRY".. so, I'm gonna try to do just
that. I have to. I cant afford any problems, I want to
enjoy being here, this place is so great and will be even
better once I get a deck, well even if I don't, this is a
great place and I AM GOING TO ENJOY IT.. PERIOD!
DOT. End of that ! :-)

I made the cutest shirt and shorts for Alex, Penny took
them to the post office to mail to Kelli. Its easier and
really cheaper to mail them for him than for her to run
up here and get them. Even though I would love the time
with our boy. :-) She said they will come up and spend a
after noon with me which would be great. Be nice to have
a little party, have Donnie and my other 2 grand daughters
Nikki and Amber, and the 3 they have, Nikki's Cameron
and Caden, and Ambers little girl Kirsten... Be a nice day!
I havent seen them for ages.. But to have my 3 grands
and my 4 great grands here all at one time.. don't you
KNOW my camera would be busy !! .. :-)

My boy got called back to work! Donnie went back Monday.
Monaco is back open, they merged with NAVSTAR and I
guess most of the employees have been called back.. Donnie
is pleased.. Although knowing him I think he liked this spare
job hes created, building decks and working outside. But
who wouldn't rather be outside than in.. specially when these
companys don't have air conditioning and rely on AIR COOLED.
which means Open Window ! IF you are lucky to have them!
Lots of places I worked no AC, I think that's where they got
the name of manufacturing places as Sweat Shops.. cuz no
air.. you sweated your patooty off :-) But I'm glad one of my
boys has gone back to work. Now, we just need to find a job
for Mark.. hes in the UK though- so anyone knows of some
jobs there around London, let me know !! :-)

I love animals, y'all know that.. go to the animal rescue site.
and click on the one for Kalamazoo, they don't have one, and
need one there, you can vote from any country, so we need this
shelter for the animals.. I go there daily and click.. Its at least
ONE way I can help the animals.. If I had a bigger place I sure
would take in orphan dogs and cats. Specially if they are from
a home where their owner has died. They go thru grief just
like we do and these poor cats and dogs are hauled off to the
shelters, which do treat them well.. but not like they would
get from a private halfway house till someone took them. I
feel for these animals.. They show them on TV and I about
cry when I see the sad eyes and such sad dogs and cats.
Breaks my heart. So Help if you can PLEASE :-)

I'm gonna go help myself to some lunch.. what, I have NO
idea.. I don't really have a big appetite when its hot. Its
not really cool in here and I don't know which will be cheaper
to run, the fans or the AC.. I will have to do a test.. Finish
off this month with fans, then next month try the central
air.. I have a feeling my electric bill will go through the roof.
Just like the gas does in the winter. The ceiling fans are
great though feeling the breeze from them. Its tolerably
cool in here.. This HOT GORGEOUS WEEBLE will "BE
BACK !" :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? Love ya and THANKS!

~My Mouse Is Dying~

The Lillys keep getting prettier :-)

I think my mouse is dying. I was in the kitchen for
awhile sewing and when I came back to check mail
and to write this it took quite a few minutes for my
mouse to work.. Its not a cordless one. But I have
noticed lately that its done this.. I guess I need to
replace it and I KNOW my keyboard needs replaced.
I wore the nubbies off the j and f keys, I can still
type, but I need those to tell where my fingers are
without looking, that's how I learned. But I fear my
mouse is on its last legs, If Penny comes tomorrow,
I will have to get a new one.. I was worried if I don't
have a mouse, which I should keep a spare, I cant
do anything on this. THAT wouldn't be good at all !
Was a kinda bad day yesterday as far as stress, but
by suppertime, which here, its usually around 5 when
you say that.... I had told my self that I will not keep
up this worry and stress it was even taking away from
me enjoying this nice place to live and I like it here...
I cant let that happen.. PLUS.. Rebecca phoned.. I told
her of my conversation with Doug, She again told me
"Lois, Do NOT WORRY, you will NOT be evicted". So.
for health and sanity reasons I am going to trust her.
If it doesn't turn out.. she will be here tomorrow for
her visit, you KNOW we will talk then.
I had a new visitor in the yard.. Its a chipmunk I think.
I don't think its a squirrel because of the white chest.
I don't care what it is really .. I had, no, Dutch and I
had fun watching him. The black birds chase that poor
little thing just awful.. I guess they were busy I kept
watching out for him. :-) Its been awhile since he was
here, so I'm glad those birds didn't chase him off.
You see that plant behind him.. Well- I have NO idea
what it is.. I bet its going to be pretty. Only 2 tall
shoots that I THINK will be covered in flowers,
I half way think its a sort of Lilly. Laura loved the
star gazer ones, she had them planted all over, but
I don't remember one like this one.. Be interesting
to watch what develops :-)
When I sit in the doorway with Dutch, I sit kinda
side saddle .. L shaped.. and Dutch sits in the empty
corner. When I do that my left stump extends past
the edge of the chair. This chair is smaller than my
manual. Well, like I said, yesterday wasn't the best
day and I had to be "on guard", so when I suddenly
had to make a mad dash to the bathroom, of course
Dutch jumps off when I move, if I go too fast, which
I was.. I miss judged the bath room door, which is
a right turn , which meant my left stump was in
range of the doorway.. Ya.. I hit the door frame with
my left stump.. THAT hurt.. I was in a hurry I have to
be more careful.. Its kinda red and irritated anyway,
I don't want to create an open spot.. Was no damage,
just sore now, not bruised or anything.. Boy I have
the crap hey? :-)

Well this careless driving GORGEOUS WEEBLE is
a tad hungry, for what, I have NO idea. Its HOT
here these past couple days, 92 yesterday. Me
thunks summer has started :-) Post time and for
my "I'll be back !" Thanks for the loving concern.
Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya !

~Ickky Monday~ :-(

This is a Monday that wasn't really necessary- for me
anyway. Started off really kinda bad because of just
ONE phone call.. I talked to Doug about the grant.. They
made a mistake in calculations and said "oops". And I
either come up with the difference, or move. There is
nothing else they can do. Adjust my budget is his idea.
If the money isnt there it never will be. I don't get pay
raises :-) I wish but I dont...Now with this new pres, I
wont even get the cost of living increase anymore. He
did suggest asking Joe to lower my rent. NOW, doesn't
THAT sound just hunky dory.?. By 112.oo.. Don't you
know he will jump at THAT !

Well.. I don't know what to do but just wait and see
the next few days or till next month, the increase is
gradual so maybe I can find a cheaper place, surely
NOT better, but cheaper. I Honestly don't know which
way to turn let alone do.. So I have to do my usual plan
of attack .

After I talked to Doug I got very sick, nauseated and
had chest pains. I had to take a nitro. I DONT like that
I let things get to me like this KNOWING the outcome.
I cant take that chance either to end up with a major
heart attack let alone another open heart surgery and
in hospital.. I have two kitties here that depend on me.

Penny was up all night and by 930 when I called she
was asleep. Apparently she has a very bad cough and
wasn't well today at all.. She fell back to sleep is why
she didn't phone.. With THAT stress and Doug I was
off to a VERY BAD day.. SO...

I am going to sit by my door and do NOTHING.. I know
I will think but maybe I can come up with a good plan
of attack on this and figure out what to do.. I still have
time.. So.. with that I am closing this post for today,
I am still a GORGEOUS WEEBLE... That will NEVER
change... wish nothing else could change !! :-)

Not to worry, I do enough of that for 20 zillion people.
I will figure something out.. :-) Thanks for all the advice
though and encouragement.. Greatly appreciated.. :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y'hear? love ya and thanks!
Always, Lois ****

"God Bless You" is my prayer today,
I'm honored to call you Friend.
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until I write again....

~Happy Father's Day!~ :-)

Fathers Day today. And if you had a great one like I
did you didn't need this special day to let him know,
I told mine every chance I got that he was THE best
dad any girl could have. My dad died in 1989.. 20 years
ago already, doesn't seem that long, but then when you
lose someone as close to you as a parent or child..the
amount of time no matter how long, it seems like only
yesterday they were here.
2 special people.. my parents.. Ralph & Violet.. :-)
A favorite spot, on their back porch.. I have that table in my kitchen.
dad cheated at solitare ! Shhhh :-) Mom couldnt figure out how he
always beat it :-) I never told :-)

I went through my photos to pick the ones I liked the
best of him, and of course, it was hard to pick, but I
chose the ones that reminded me most of him and who
and what he was.. He had a smile, that you just couldn't
help smile back.. He had a gold tooth, that made his
even more special.. :-) He was a very special man.. One
of a kind..When he got dentures he even had that gold
one put in it.. :-)
One of his favorite things to do was fish.. he taught me :-)

His name was Ralph Elwin, he was born January 28, 1909,
died April 26, 1989, he was a direct decendant to
Samuel Woodworth, his great grandfather, that wrote
the song "The Old Oaken Bucket". In fact there is a
Woodworth family reunion going on now up in New York.
Next year it may be here in Grand Rapids where many
of my grandfathers family are.. Be nice to go to one.
There is also a website about this song and Samuel...:-)
The very top photo look at my dads hands. His fingers
had arthritis and the tips were bent, he worked till the
day he went into hospital to fight the cancer that had
already gone past repair.. Pancreatic, that kills you in
only months.. which it did him. I didn't make it home
in time, I was on my way as fast as I could, when I
called from Milwaukee, he was already gone.. Was the
worst trip I ever made in my life, from Buffalo back
home...

My dad was a mechanic, all his life, he tried the mine,
got hurt and refused to go back, I was glad! He had
his own garage and no helpers.. his quote "If a job
is done wrong, I don't want to take blame for some
one elses work, I do my own." and he loved it... My
parents went out to my Uncle Stanley and Aunt Edna's
was Christmas time, and while we kids played, my
cousin Larry and I, the adults were making taffy. You
had to pull it between two people or by your self, my
dad had a huge piece of WHITE taffy, he was pulling
and stretching it, looked down and the taffy had turned
almost black.. a dark grey ! He looked at his hands.. :-)
they were SNOW WHITE.. being a mechanic the oil and
grease even though he constantly washed his hands it
was embedded into the skin and nails :-) The taffy being
very oily, drew all of that stuff OUT and changed the
color of the taffy.. Needless to say, my dad was pleased,
his hands hadnt been THAT white and clean in ages, but
he had one of the biggest chunks of taffy ! NO ONE was
gonna eat that ! :-)

Ive written and still could write lots of stories about my
dad, who and what he was, and I probly will ! :-) He taught
me well if he hadnt I don't think this life I have now, I
could handle if it wasn't for him. My sons are dads, I hope
they are even half the dad their grandfather was.. and
they or anyone would be great.. :-) I still miss my dad....
I have a old bottle of OLD SPICE, that was his, I smell
it once in a while, its here on my desk.. That smell brings
him back just like the photos.. I was very blessed that
he and my mom picked me to raise... :-) They adopted me
when I was 10 months old.. :-)

Well, I have to stop, you know just writing a few words
about my dad will bring a tear to my eyes.. and this
GORGEOUS WEEBLE cant see what shes typin.. plus I
didn't eat much yesterday and I'm a tad hungry, but
only something light. Happy Fathers Day... :-)

Y'all have a good one now, Y"hear? love ya and thanks..
